bassheel Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Any one else paint their blades on a chatterbait type lure? I tend to do better on my waters when I paint them black. Quote
Jon G Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I will use black sharpie on my green pumpkin and black and blue bladed jigs. I would rather be fishing than taking all that time to paint them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 12, 2015 I powder paint mine in several different colors; copper, gold, black, white, chartreuse, orange, blue, purple, brown, and red. I'm a big fan of the painted blades myself. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 I will use black sharpie on my green pumpkin and black and blue bladed jigs. I have done the same, and it works just fine. I dare say, my chatterbait success has increased in clearer water than I would normally use them in since I started doing this. I still leave them flashy in dirty water. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Brett Hite fishes most all of his Chatterbaits with black blades, as far as I know. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 12, 2015 A few different colors to get the creative juices flowing A couple of my go to baits in really muddy water. Do they eat crappie where you fish? They love them here, especially the bigger fish. This bait is a killer in darker stained water for some reason. Killer gill with a painted translucent copper blade A couple recent special request. It's a pain to paint them but I feel it makes a big difference so it's worth it to me. Quote

Is there a time you prefer painted over metallic or vice versa? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 12, 2015 Is there a time you prefer painted over metallic or vice versa? If they're feeding heavily on reflective baitfish would be a good example. Otherwise, it's a trial and error thing where sometimes they prefer one over the other and sometimes it doesn't matter. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Great photos of your chatterbaits and painted blades. Such good quality and highly productive baits that I have no need for other brands of chatterbaits. I still have about 16 of them left but will probably be needing a few more with dark painted blades! Quote

Dang Blue I'm going to need to contact you when I run low on bladed jigs (still have a 3700 plano stuffed with D&M) those look great. Is that a trokar hook I see on a couple of those? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Jon G - you should contact him. I was on the fence about trying them or not but now I am 100% sold. I am pretty sure his standard hook is a Mustad but he can do other hooks as well. For spring and fall baits I have found nothing better. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 After trying about 5 other brands I settled on his. Really like the thump of the Zmans original chattebaits but the hook was small and I hate football jig heads on chatterbaits. Bluebassers are the best I have used that combine all the things I look for in a quality bait. Quote

I think I will once I start running low on some D&Ms, I almost cleaned TW up once I heard they were being discontinued. So currently I'm not in any need of any bladed jigs. But who knows I may crack lol Quote
