BassCats Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I have the opportunity to buy a brand new 2015 alumacraft voyager 175 with a 90hp yamaha. Only problem is that they want $3000 more than the tracker and the carpet in the boat is already coming off the glue. Would you consider this boat even with carpet coming off? dealer says they will reglue carpet for free but it worries me that it already is coming loose from factory. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 11, 2015 Super User Posted July 11, 2015 They could have spilled oil on the carpet, that's the main reason why new carpet separates. Check for oil stains or smells in that area. Have you tried to haggle them down on price? Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted July 11, 2015 Super User Posted July 11, 2015 personally, I can buy a whole lot of contact cement for $3,000 if that's the only issue with the boat. Yama is a good motor, what size and make motor is on the Tracker. Quote

Super User Way2slow Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Sounds like a lot of that difference could be in the cost of the motors. You have to compare apples to apples. Compare the two boats, size and features and then how they stack up cost wise Then look at the accessories trailers etc. See how they stack up between each boat Then the motors. Motors can make a huge difference in the out the door price of a boat. That's why Tracker is bad about under powering the crap out of entry level boats so they can make the unknowing think he's getting a lot of boat for a little money. That's not the case in the one you are looking at, that's a lot of motor and you are going to pay for it. You didn't say if the Yamaha was a two stroke or four stroke, but you need to look at what each motor sells for and then cost of operating it. That 115 Four Stroke is going to very easy on the pocket each trip out for the size it is, and quite. Breaking it down in features, you can come up with a much better cost comparison rather than just looking at the retail price of the two. Quote
Super User Further North Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Tough choice - I'd tend towards the Alumacraft, as long as the carpet repair was warranted along with the boat...but I'd sure like to have that 115 over the 90... Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 There is only one real way to tell and that is to take each boat for a test ride so you can see how well you like them. If they won't give you a ride, don't buy. If you decide on the Tracker you might give Pro's Choice marine in Warsaw MO. They are the largest tracker dealer and they usually have prices below anywhere else you can find. Guys have told me that they have saved as much as $5000 on a new Nitro. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 It should be covered for the length of their bow to stern warranty Quote
FrogFreak Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I agree that you need to take both boats out and test em. My buddy has a Tracker and I wouldn't pay him to own it. The rod storage is horrible and I dislike the layout. The bottom line is this, if you love it and can afford it, buy it. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted July 14, 2015 Super User Posted July 14, 2015 I don't know any dealers that will dump a new boat in the water for you to test. First off, the motor isn't broke in, so how can you really test it out, just idle around? I would never buy a 'new' boat that has been floated or has any time on the meter. I'd go with the Alumacraft, but I have an oversion to Tracker and Merc. If you're worried about it being underpowered, see if they will upgrade to a bigger motor. If not, keep looking. Nothing worse than buying a new ride and getting bored with it quickly cause it's underpowered. Quote

I was taken on a test ride in the almost exact boat that I ordered. After placing the order I used the test boat in two tournaments. All the dealers have them here but they are usually the 20 footers and loaded, top of the line Quote

Would you consider this boat even with carpet coming off? dealer says they will reglue carpet for free but it worries me that it already is coming loose from factory. I have owned a boat for 22 years. I sold my boat in 2012 and have been looking to purchase another one recently. during my research I found that most boats are priced similarly if you are comparing apples to apples (boat length, outboard H.P. & trailer). some boat companies sell prepackaged boats and others allow you to build your own package. I found that boat companies charge different prices when you add similar accessories (trolling motors, electronics, boat covers, gauges on the console, hotfoot, folding trailer tongues, spare tires). Tracker charges you for destination & prep fees and their boat decks are plywood. if Alumacraft's 175 w/ 90 HP outboard is $3000 more than Tracker's 175 w/ 115 HP outboard the alumacraft boat should at least be equipped with better or more accessories than the Tracker. good luck with your decision.
