cjam93 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hey guys so I am looking to replace some treble hooks of mine that have become a bit dull. I dont really know the difference between ewg and round bend trebles though. These hooks will be going on a 5xd and a DD22. Which should I get, and what are the pros and cons of the two different styles? Thanks! Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 10, 2015 Super User Posted July 10, 2015 Did you learn what hook to replace on your DD22? Treble hooks, like other hooks, don't have a standard to judge sizes or shapes at times. Round bend is just that; the hook gap shape is a full radius or round. Sproat bend is elliptical or larger radius near the shank and smaller radius near the hook point. Wide gap or extra wide gap is the distance from the hook shank to the hook point. Treble hooks come I'd standard length shank and short shank, combined with round bend and sproat/ standard bend. Today wide gap trebles have the point bent inward toward the hook shank and that separates a wide gap from a standard or sprout bend. If you choose a short shank round or wide gap treble hook for crankbaits; go up 1 size, use size 1 in lieu of size 2. If you choose a standard shank with standard or sproat bend; stay with the same size (2). I use Owner STX-58TN for DD-22 cranks; standard shank sproat bend 3X strength wire. Tom Quote
