Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted July 9, 2015 Super User Posted July 9, 2015 Should I go with something like a 265 or should I just say to hell with it. And put some 44 or 48in super swampers on there? I primarily intend to use the truck for running over imports that can't park properly in parking spots. Perhaps the occasional trail ride or river run. Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted July 10, 2015 Super User Posted July 10, 2015 what kind of truck? I hate swampers, i had them on my old jeep and they sucked. they were way too noisy, didn't perform as well offered as they looked like they should and broke apart on the road. I was glad i bought them on a good deal.... I am about to upgrade tires here on my wrangler here in the next 6 months and am debating on how big i should go... Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 10, 2015 Super User Posted July 10, 2015 I just put a set of Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3's on the Serria on Tuesday. Spent the last two days off road in some Mutant Muck & Mire . . . . Extra wide footprint and beefy tread blocks for great all around traction. Very Happy. A-Jay 2 Quote

Gonna put a 3 inch level kit on when I get home from out of town. Was gonna do that and a 6 inch suspension lift today. However, that would eat up all my travel funds. So I'm gonna go with the 3 inch lift. Then when these tires wear out. put the 6 inch on and get up into the high forties. 1 Quote

Big C Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 BFG AT"s wear pretty good, but Baja Claws are probably what you're looking for. Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted July 10, 2015 Super User Posted July 10, 2015 I like the BFG AT's, one of the best long lasting tires out there. I had 50k on my last set before i sold the jeep and they still had at least 1/3 if not more tread left. I was looking at those Baja ATZs and they look good. I will be interested to hear your report after you have them for a while. F150. I went with the 265s. Gonna put a 3 inch level kit on when I get home from out of town. I know the leveling kit isn't a bad install at all but when you go up 6" does it get more difficult since i think they have IFS? That is one thing I love about wranglers, they are still live axles so putting on a lift isn't that bad and with the coil springs introduced in the mid 90's it is even easier. I am debating on even putting on a lift at all because as it sits now if i go with flat fenders, which i want, i can go with 35s with zero lift. It has 33s stock now.... Quote

I've never done one before. Im more mechanically sound with two wheel machines. A friend I made at a store down here is gonna do it for me. I'm doing some lighting for him, in exchange for the labor on the lift kit installs. I found a old 80s chevy 1500 4x4 for 2100 down here I may scoop up and turn into a mud truck. My neighbors are gonna hate me in the subdivision we are looking at building our house in. That truck will have to be trailered to and from locations When it's done. That jeep sounds sick as hell. My old 95 i had to put 3" of lift on to clear 33" and would still rub occasionally when wheeling. Now my 2012 wrangler came with 32.5"from the factory. Now I just need to save up about 5k to do everything that I want all at once from bumpers to fenders to tires and wheels... 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted July 10, 2015 Super User Posted July 10, 2015 Axle swap and put some tractor tires on it. makes it a little tough as a daily driver with 70 miles a day put on them lol now if i get an old TJ or YJ i just might go that route.... 1 Quote
LuckyGia Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I personally would not lift a 1/2 ton truck. It is basically a car with a open trunk. If you want a big truck, buy a real truck. Minimum 3/4 ton. Then you can be into crawling over imports. Quote

It's not going to get me what I want out of it. So instead I'm looking into Building a mud truck out of an older chevy. I've thought about that. Quite a bit actually. As for building what I'm thinking of. The body of the 1500 chevy would be all that gets used. Transmission and engine would most likely come from a 3500. I'm not sure the engine and transmission from the 1500 would handle what I'm looking to put on it. Quote
