OleManHiggins Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hey Everyone, I saw something on youtube and had an idea/inquiry. What would be the possibility of having a bass fishing tournament in the Richmond Area (Henrico/Hanover/Chesterfield/other Counties) for bank fishing. Has anything like this ever happened in this area? Is there a lake/pond large enough to do it at? Would something like this have to be organized with registered Bass Club? I'm don't know what it would take to make it happen but I believe it could be a something cool for our area. If you know anything or could possibly be interested please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!! Quote
quanjig Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 As long as the body of water is ok with doing something like that, you should be fine. I know we have Burke lake here in norther va that prohibits tournaments. Was it just for fun or were you planning on monies being exchanged? 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 9, 2015 Super User Posted July 9, 2015 OleMan, we tried to do this a number of years ago and met at Lake Rooty in Innsbrook. I think we had 8 or 9 guys show up and we had a nice time. Finding a local pond to fish is not problem. Get a copy of the DG&IF Freshwater Fishing in Virginia booklet and look in the Central Virginia section for the lakes and ponds that we could fish. Your local tackle shop, BPS, Green Top, Tackle Express and Wal-Mart have the free copies. Lake Rooty is out as the Innsbrook property manager put chemicals in the lake to kill the grass and it hit the bass population hard. So check out the publication and then do a recon and if you find a nice place for a big pond fishing adventure just put out the invitation for one weekend and meet the guys at the site. Quote
OleManHiggins Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Quanjig, I was just thinking for fun or maybe having everyone throw in some baits and the winner takes it. No money exchange though. Sam, Thanks for the information! I'll look deeper into it and follow up in the future! Have a great day. I was thinking about fishing at Lake Rooty this weekend can you still fish it? I'm looking for more places closer to me to fish out in the west end. I seem to always end up on the Southside. Quote

Lake Rooty is pretty much dead from what i can tell and the last time I went out there i only caught some sunnies. There are other lakes in the Innsbrook area that still have some bass but they don't fish like they used to for sure. I was out at one of the ponds by East shore, down nuckols, and saw a guy with a small rubbermaid tote who had 4 good sized bass in there that were obviously dead. As i walked by i told him the lakes were catch and release only, which i believe they all are. I then mentioned it to a security guard who was there but by the time he got over to the guy, he was gone. Other options are wading areas of the south anna at the boat launches, which won't produce big fish necessarily but you can catch spotted bass, smallies and sunnies all day long pretty much. The river is also shallow enough that you can wade up or down river a good ways and make a solid half day out of it. Quote
OleManHiggins Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 That's helpful. If Lake Rooty is that bad, I won't wast my time. I've never heard of East Shore so maybe I'll check it out this weekend. I'm still new to the West End. (been on this side for about 6 months now) so I'm still learning. I haven't been wading in over a year so South Anna sounds fun. I just searched in google though, where exactly is that? Does it have another name? Quote
