So I have a couple questions. I mostly fish in the early morning and evenings ( due to 105+ temps). And because of that I do a lot of top water fishing. (Mostly frogs) and I want to get a back up rod/reel combo. I want it to be a flipping and pitching set up for when the bass miss my frog I can toss out a craw or any kind of t-rigged soft plastic.

I'm looking at a Quantum accurist reel. I believe it's a 7:3:1. And it also has a neat flip switch. My first question is has anyone tried this reel and is it worth the 99$.??? Or should I just save more and buy something better (my wife keeps me on a budget ha)

My next question is for flipping/pitching I'm gonna want something between 7'-7'6" heavy right? And does anyone have a good rod recommendation? (Keep in mind the budget)

For $99, u can get a quantum smoke or an energy pt from sheltonsclothing. Both are better reels

Wife recently bought me a Quantum Code reel that has the pitching/flipping switch.  Great reel for the $$.  You can buy one of these for around $80.  Very low and smooth profile.  I have it mounted to a St. Croix Bass Mojo 6' 6" MH rod.  What a great all-around combo.  I can throw almost anything with this setup.  You could be into this rig for under $200, including a spool of braid or flouro.

I like this reel as much or more than my Curado's.  That's tough to admit, but it's true.  No, I'll never bee a full on Quantum guy.  My son bought 3 different Quantum Smoke spinning reels before he got one that would work past the first week.  Just my .02.

I have the accurist and energy both. The energy may be a tad better for normal casting but the added option of the flipping switch is nice to have and I use mine with it engaged while using those techniques.

The accurist is a superb flipping/pitching reel.

Id say a standard 7'mhf would be what you want. Put a senko ot t-rigged craw on it and follow up your frog.

15#-17# fluoro or 30-50# braid.

The energy pt has the flipping switch also. U must have an older energy reel

My flipping setup is the exact same reel on a 7'10" H/F *** black. I LOVE this setup and it has more then enough backbone and sensitive tip for all your flipping/pitching needs. I use 65# braid on mine due to the heavy vegetation I use it in and near. If I had anything to dislike about the setup is I wish I could upgrade the drag to get a little more tension when needed. Beware also using the flipping switch as if you start using that setup to throw any other castable baits such as frogs or swimbaits if you forget to disengage the flipping switch when you go to take a normal cast you can end up snapping off due to the reels spool becoming engaged as you use your thumb for thumbing your reel throughout your cast. I guess that's the other negative. I use it 95% of the time for flipping/pitching so not a main concern of mine. Just keep in mind if you plan on using it for more then one application.

I'll send that pm soon!

7'6 Rapsody Flipper. H-MF rod and I absolutely LOVE mine for flipping and pitching. I also have it in the 8' Maestro model (their higher end series). Good price on them at $100 because they sell factory direct.

Actually the Accurist, in all of its forms has always been a decent reel, the Kinetic is another one of the low price reels I would buy along with a Lews speed spool, the $99.00 version. As for rod, well I'm a Fenwick fan and the HMG 7'6" MH-XF, this rod is going to have the power of a heavy because of how quickly it loads, it also has above average sensitivity and it $99.99 with a lifetime warranty. The truth is, just about any rod at $100 will be pretty decent and I own an HMG and I can tell you that it is a lot of rod for the money, they seriously could have sold them for forty dollars more and I'd still be happy. Now, if you want to save a little more money there is a budget stick that I got as a Christmas present and instead of sending it back I kept it because it isn't a bad rod. The rod is a Daiwa Procyon 7'6" H-F and it is telescopic at the handle so it will collapse down to 7' for storage, the rod is $75 and has a 5 year warranty and as I said, it isn't a bad rod at all, and when the site that we don't mention was putting the other Daiwa rods on sale, the Procyon didn't go as they sell, it is a very good budget stick. The *** Black is another very good rod, but the longer heavier versions go a little over the $100 mark but there you go, options all over, check each one out and see what works for you.

I'm a big fan of lews reels and use them on all my setups. They have several great reels all priced around 100 bucks. My buddy has an abu reel but stopped using it for flipping and pitching because the spool would woble when he loosened it right up so he could make pitch casts. I let him try a couple of my lews reels which have never had this problem and he hasn't used anything but since. Also I like duckett rods, if you got a duckett ghost series rod and lews reel you could be setup for around 200 bones.
