Went to my local DSG and saw they were selling any sized booyah frogs for $4 and any Jawbone frog for $2. I got the booyah pad crasher in black and yellow for the black belly. but the Jawbones have plain white bottoms.. id like to sharpie on some patterns like my spro has on the bottom. Does anyone else do this? Won't the spots on the bottom help catch fish?

Thanks

(From left to right: booyah black, spro natural green, jawbone chartruse [top right], Jawbone green [bottom right] )

Don't think it's gonna make a huge difference. Fishing is always trial and error. Try marking one and fish both and see which produces better for you. Let us know the outcome! Greats deal!

I was Thinkin of doin just 1 jawbone and leaving the other plain white. I probably will, and I'll just copy the patter from the spro. I will test and deliver results!

Most topwater baits, frogs included, have light solid colored bellies. There are times when a black or firetiger belly will outproduce a white or light colored one on a hard bait, but with frogs and toads, I've rarely noticed any preference.  I have lost a black rat or frog only to tie on a light or white colored one and continued to catch fish at about the same rate.  Color them any way you like if you feel it makes a difference. Possibly you'll have different results that what I've experienced.

OK so i feel the same way. I often find myself fishing light blue to overcast white skies. I love to trow frogs and here in CT i start in July and will throw frogs until winter. In nature a frogs (or fish) belly is light colored weather it be white, tan, yellow, light green. This is because I think its harder to be seen from below and they wont get eaten. So then why would I want the big bass I am fishing for not be able to see my lure? Every time I see an awesome colored frog I notice the bottom is white. The top color dosent matter I want the color pattern 360* so thats what the fish sees too.

So my question is just like yours. Does the weird smell of shapie chemicals turn fish off? I just got one of those spike it pens but its only in chartreuse and a flamboyant orange color. Would coloring the bottom of the frog Dark Green, Blue or Black help the bass locate it and zone in on the silhouette of the frog?

Funny! My fishing partner was just giving me a hard time because I was "wasting" his time(and mine), while taking a sharpie and a spike it pen to my white No Bull Frogs. He shut up after the first fish came through the pads. It works, doesn't bother the fish. "Match the hatch", my theory. Next big frog you catch, flip him over.

You have two with white bottoms, "color" one, and see which one gets more hits.

I am no expert I don't even use frogs but I decided to try some so I bought some this past winter. Before I did I watched one video (don't remember what one) that had a "pro" talking of this same subject. What he said was kind of obvious. Basically he said the fish are down here and a top water bait is up here. He goes on to say now the only side of any topwater bait that matters is where... the bottom. He actually says when buying frogs as far as the color he only cared about the bottom color he would suggest a white and a black bottom and if you wanted a 3rd frog a yellow but he only used the black and white ones. The top color doesn't matter. That was my best recollection anyway. So I would think it would be more of the strike based on the shape first and then maybe the color.

I have used sharpies to put eyes or black dots like eyes on my cheap spinnerbaits and its never stopped fish from hitting them. But I do use JJ Magic on the tips of some skirts but I am sure I haven't always done this to mask the sharpie scent. It was more trying to get a color I wanted. I say go for it maybe you will find a killer combination.

I wish I had bought mine at DSG for $4 they were very proud of the frogs everywhere I shopped when I bought mine.

I have four bull frog Pad Crashers with the white light chartreuse belly, and one black with yellow markings, and a R2S in black with blue markings. I only use the bull frogs (only frogs I see around up here in NJ) because I still haven't seen a black with yellow markings frog swimming around, or a black with blue markings frog swimming around... maybe if I went fishing in the Amazon.

Lol true. I only got the black with yellow for the black bottom on certain days

Yep, black for low light, white for daylight. Top color is for the fisherman, so choose something you can see.

I bought a River2Sea Bully Wa II a few months ago. I caught about 100 bass on it, and just ordered a dozen more. Best frog I've ever fished.

They only have one size right now, 65. You only need a white one and black one, but I like coot (black/red) lime (white/green). Use the white on sunny days and ack on cloudy/dark days. I fish a frog whenever the fish are on shallow cover with or without grass. Walk it like a spook. Heavy braid, heavy 7'-7'3" Rod. Do work!
