I've been talking to family and the exes family about packing my kids up and moving out of state to get the heck out of NY. Everything's been going pretty smooth about it other then my job. My work keeps throwing more and more money at me lol not that it's a bad thing but I'm finding it harder to justify leaving because I doubt I will move and find another job as good as this one and pay as well I've been getting a $.50-150 raise every 3 months just about. The owner came in yesterday said the company is doing great he's making money so he's passing it on to us so we can make more money to take care of the ones we love then hands us a $50 bill each and says he put another 100 in our checks and will be reviewing to give us yet another raise this week.

I want to leave NY in the worst way but this place is making it hard to.

not sure but were;t you posting about how awesome this job was and the opportunity it is giving in you and how yo are working hard and being rewarded?

The grass isn't always greener elsewhere.  I will tell you something that a manager i had when i was working at a fortune 500 company, never leave to get away from something, always leave to go to something....it is good advice and has served me well over the years.

Personally I say stay where you are at. If you are enjoying it then keep at it.

If you just want a change then go for it. Make the change and take the plunge.

Money isn't everything. It can't buy happiness. However it can buy really good cognac and fishing and hunting gear.

Now where did I put my glass of D'usse XO...

Look at the long term and what is available down south based on your career.

Good luck.

Sounds like that's a great job....I don't think I'd leave if your boss believes in spreading the wealth ;). Maybe my boss needs to give him a call!

Be hard to leave a stable job these days... Especially a rewarding stable job.

I couldn't move unless I had a job where I was going. Especially with a wife and 2 little ones depending on me.

I love the work I do even if it is dusty and I deal with a lot of chemicals but I like the type of work it's got different challenges every day. I've been looking into moving to Florida or Texas there seem to be a ton of fiberglass shops in Florida I've been looking into the same type of work just in different states.

There are a ton of reasons I want to leave NY and I realize grass isn't always greener on the other side. My job is about the only thing going though.

And yes raider money isn't everything and it can't buy happiness but like ya said it can buy hunting and fishing gear and that's the same thing. I have been working here for 18months and at the rate of these raises and the amounts I'll have doubled what I started at with this next raise if not definitely the next one if its only $0.50 the next two. It's been nice because I made ends meet before and they extra money I have been putting into extra payments on the house and car trying to rebuild my credit from the damage the ex wife did. Even while doing that I've been able to buy things I want while still supporting my family and getting ahead.

Sounds lIke you have found your niche. If it's only the job keeping you, then I would jet to a new job in the same industry. Take a week off and go talk with some of the shops in Florida and/or Texas. Go visit them and see what you think.

it's not the only thing keeping me there's some other things we are waiting to fall in place before we made the move like the baby being born and my gf has a settlement coming from a car accident a year ago she was hit by a drunk driver in a work vehicle for a major cable company. The plan was baby then settlement her lawyers said it will be soon as her doctors appointments and surgeries are all taken care of which are on hold due to the pregnancy.

After that stuff we were gonna make the move.

Your boss is exceptional, that's hard act to match.  There is no right or wrong solution, something to be said about the quality of life being enjoyed elsewhere.  On the other hand it's true money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy comfort and security.

Like flyfisher said, don't try to move away from something, move to something.  If you are wanting to move to get away from something, it WILL follow you.

I live in Fl. and believe me, there are bad points, such as, the temp started being in the 90's in May and in June we had over 100 (in our yard) very often.  Working and playing in that kind of temp has it's limitations.  The hot months are yet to come.  There is no place that is perfect.  If you just pack up and move, you may find there are more bad points than where you came from.  And, usually, if you have spent quite a bit burning your bridges behind you, you can't afford to pack up and go back.

Sometimes, if things (job, family, location, etc.) aren't just what you want, maybe, just maybe, an attitude adjustment is in order.

Over a lot of years, I've found out it's really easy to get everything I want, just have to change my wants once in a while.

I would find it very hard to pick up and leave a good job, especially if there were little ones depending on me.

Well they just canned the QC guy so I requested for his position since I'm the one who does all the finish work or repairs on when he rejects. I would go back to days but the pay increase would be sooooo worth it they started the last guy at 60k a year salary.
