TheBigOne Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 So recently I have been looking for a nice baitcaster reel. It so happens that while cleaning g out my garage I found a Abu Garcia, Black Max 1. It says on the side that it has 2 ball bearings and an intstant anti-reverse mechanism. To me it just looks like a basic baitcaster reel, no special round bail or anything. After looking in the internet, I have not been able to find the product at all. All that comes up is the Black Max 2. Has anybody heard of this reel before and does it sound like a good product? Super User RoLo Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 In their day they were considered the cat's meow, but of course today's reels are far superior. I can't help with the Max 1, mine are Pro Max 1600 & 3600. Roger Quote

Super User gardnerjigman Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 It will work for a starter bait caster. Will at least let get the mechanics of your cast down. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 So they are good, but not just amazing, or are they pretty terrible. Casting plugs is not the only function of a baitcasting reel. The old Black Max is still a very fine reel for live bait fishing (hence the name "baitcasting"), for trolling and for inshore saltwater fishing. Roger Quote
TheBigOne Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 OK. Well at least I don't have to buy a reel. Quote
