Best Scissors

I've tried to find the best tool for cutting braid. I've tried Fiskars, clippers, multitools, but is there anything better? I usually use Sufix 832 and Power Pro and don't usually get a real nice clean cut. Maybe I'm being anal about it since it doesn't affect performance only the looks. I've seen the Boomerang (I think that's what it's called) tool on TT but haven't tried it. What do you guys find is best? Thanks.

Rapala braid scissors have worked for me.

The KVD braid cutters you can get at walmart work well for about a year. Also, had good luck with the Rapala needle nose pliers with carbide inserts until they went missing. I had those for a few years though and they worked just as well as they had when new.

So far the best I've found is the kvd braid scissor/split ring combo tool.  Very clean cuts and lasting so far.  Rapalas don't seem to last very long for me.

I use the Rapala braid scissors I can get at Walmart.  They last about a year before getting dull but they only cost $3.

The scissors on my Leatherman Micra work ok - with a caveat.  Use a set of hemostats to lock on to the tag end of the line and get it stretched tight prior to cutting.  That is what gets me the closest, cleanest cut.

Thanks guys. That's the same experience I've had - needing to replace them every year. I know they are inexpensive but I wish there were something that lasted longer that didn't break the bank, relatively speaking. I'll try the KVD scissors. 

 

Fishes in trees, I agree that pulling the tag end works the best for making a nice clean cut but I was hoping for something easier since I hate re-tying in general.

I don't have an issue about any and normally use the rounded nose set sold for three dollars at Walgreens.   Are you pulling the braid into the blades or trying to cut it by moving the handles.  Pulling the braid in leaves nice cuts and works great.  The line cutter on my bench made knife works good to.

Razor blades. Cheap as hell just watch your storage of them. Can use one of those razor knifes that the tips break off of for quite a few seasons.

I have a pair and they are fantastic. I fish light line and they cut like a hot knife through butter. I would imagine heavier lines wouldn't be an issue either.

Boomerang snips changed my life! Haha Seriously though, I never even thought about them and always cut my line with my teeth or a knife. Then a friend let me use his boomerang snips one day and it made re-tying so much easier. I have a set of lews pliers that cut braid pretty good as well, but they aren't as easy to deal with.

Dwight turned me on to the Boomerang Clips and they really are as good as advertised. Nice clean cuts and I am already a few season in with them and they still cut as well as day 1.

For scissors the kids Fiskars work perfectly. It has to be the titanium ones though. I usually use my shimano split ring pliers thoigh. The KVD ones cut pretty good also.

The local Cabelas has the Boomerangs but I looked them over (in the packaging) and they didn't seem like they'd work as effectively as scissors but maybe I'll try em out if I can't find the KVD cutters or the BPS hemo cutter. It is interesting to see the many options with more people using braid. Thanks for the replies!

the boomerang tool is the best I've found. I've cut everything between 5lb to 100+lb braid and 150+lb mono for saltwater. never failed me, plus you can clip the retractable lanyard to your belt loop and spend less time searching for them.

 

just get the boomerang and be done with it. 

 

the best $12 you'll ever spend. Unless you have a good sense of humor like me and bring loose change to a strip club.
