IowaBass15 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I was wondering how to convert my 5:4:1 lews tournament MG reel to a 6:3:1 or similar ratio? The reel is practically brand new. Used 3 times. Can't seem to find much on the Web and would be willing to trade if interested. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 you could call lews and ask if they will sell you the higher gear ratio set for the tournament MG or if the reel is as new as you say, take it back....Aside from just selling it, those are your only options. Quote
IowaBass15 Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 I will definitely call lews and see if that's an option. I got it when cabelas had a big sale online and don't have any return paperwork any longer. I love the reel just being on the bank most of the time I could use another higher ratio more often. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 call Lews , i did to ask them about changing out gears for a BB2 wide spool , they told me they can put in 5.4-1 gears in it for $20 !! i'm just gonna buy the reel directly from them and have them do the gear swap . don't know how much they would charge you for the gear swap on a used reel , might be more money . Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Gear swaps aren't usually cost effective unless you're building a 1-off reel that's not commercially available. Putting 7:1 core gears in a 50E for example. There are so many Lew's models and variants I'd suggest just buying another reel or for that matter just using what you have. The IPT difference may not be that big a difference when all is said and done. Quote
chelboed Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Though as pgersumky stated...his desired configuration doesn't exist...thus it was cost effective for him. For the OP...not so much. Quote
