WPCfishing Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Please recommend.. I can't find one other than the Premier. I don't like the grip. I like the Fenwick full cork type grip. 75-100 bucks would be good. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 You could chop off the butt with a miter saw and glue on a new butt cap. Take a 6'10 rod with a 10" handle, which is very common, and chop 4" off the butt. Now you have a 6'6" rod with a 6" handle. You didn't specify the length you wanted so that's just an example. The action and power will not be affected at all by chopping off the butt section as long as the reel seat stays in the same place. I would recommend Mud hole's decorative aluminum butt caps. They look good and probably have a color to match your blank. If not, just choose black. http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/Decorative-Butt-Caps/Rubber-Butt-Cap-with-Designer-Aluminum-Trim I wrap the metal insert with tape until it fits snug inside the blank, then just epoxy it in there. kschultz76 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I don't think anyone else makes that type of grip, except maybe some of the older G Loomis series. There are some using a reel seat that has a rubberized bump on top for your hand, but not cork. Quote

WPCfishing Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Let me clarify. I want to buy a 6' MH spinning rod that has a cork grip. 1 Quote
k3bass Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 So what is it exactly you don't like about the cork grip on the premier? What kind of cork grip are you looking for? Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 So what is it exactly you don't like about the cork grip on the premier? What kind of cork grip are you looking for? I think he wants a cork grip and a reel seat that has cork covering the graphite, that's what the Fenwick has. The St Croix like many rods just has exposed graphite. OP the other option I just stupidly realized is to look at rods with the VSS spinning reel seat, like the Avix X. Will still have the exposed graphite threads and hood but its got more cork to hold. kschultz76 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Good call, Clarus has that vss reel seat. Also the Pinnacle Perfecta uses it as well. So does Powell Diesel, or a similar seat anyway. All the Dobyns rods. Falcon Cara T7 and Lowrider. So if you spend some time looking around plenty of options. Quote
WPCfishing Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 I found plenty of quality rods with the right grip design, can't find a 6'mh. I'll have one built. I'm in the middle of casting rod build and a Lews Speed Stick customization right now with Ted at Aquidnick in Portsmouth RI. His rod builds are superb. Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 On sorry I forgot a out the 6' length requirement. Good luck! Quote
