fireandice Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 What is everyone's favorite frog these days? The jig is my go-to bait of choice, but with all of the great frogs out now, I have jumped on the bandwagon just a bit. I found these Lunker Frog's at Wal-Mart. Wow. Drag this dude over some lily pads, and DANG. Just saying. So what is the best in your opinion? Spro, Lunker Frog, KVD ?? Colors? Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 It has been the original Snag Proof, but I just bought a bunch off Amazon, so I'll probably be forming some new opinions soon. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 BTW, I think frog color is about the least important thing to consider. How does a fish see anything but a silhouette when he looks at a frog against the sky. That goes for most topwaters IMO. But I guess I would stick to the natural patterns. I do have a SPRO in all black, but just because they were out of the frog colors when I bought it. All the rest I have are some form of green or frog pattern. 1 Quote

kikstand454 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I used to really like the scum frog ....... But nowadays I just get the h2o frog from academy. Just as nice- at half the price. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 Booyah pad crasher, and the SK sexy frog. I like the booyah for sparser cover work, as it skips and walks better than the SK, and I use the SK for heavy matted stuff, it has a rattle in it,which, IMHO, helps in the thick stuff. Plus, it "sits" down into the cover a little more and moves more water, which also helps get more bites and hookups when I am frogging thick mats, etc....Those who frog a lot, know what I am talking about. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 My current frog lineup. But I've only caught something off #2, 3 & 5, from the left Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 I don't even wanna say haha... They're getting harder to find and I'm scared someone else is going to start sniping me out. Quote

lmoore Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I've spent 100's of hours with a frog over the past few years, and Booyah gets my money. I still have plenty of Spros and a few LiveTargets and ***s around, but I feel like I get the better hookup ratio with the Booyahs. Probably just a confidence thing. I do lots of modifications to them to change the action, sound, etc. Probably the best "modification" I do is to soak a few of them in some type of attractant the night before I'll be going. I like an attractant with the consistency of runny snot. Gets the frog all slimy and seems like they hold on to it a little better. As for colors, don't know why I have anything outside of white or black. Quote
DTack Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 My favorite are Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect, and Ish's Phat Frog. I like white, orange throat, green back... or black/black and yellow! 1 Quote

War Eagle 44 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 The original Spro Bronzeye 65 is my all time favorite. The Bronzeye Jr is next followed by the Bronzeye Shad. Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 DANG! And Scum Frog is only $3.79. I get you though...half the price of SPRO, etc. Yeah...lol....I meant half the price of spro. But honestly, you can also get them for half the price of scum frog if you catch it. I found a whole case of them, in a sexy shad color, and they had them marked $.68. I bought 12. I don't throw a frog much.....but they're sexy shad color is pretty dark and I've done well with it- so I picked up what to me may be a 3 year supply for less then 10bucks. Quote

Dogmatic Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Pad Crashers, Ish's Phat, for hollow bodies, but I use Spro, Lunkers, LT, & SK also. Case Plastics and 3:16 for plastic frog/toad. The 3:16 No Bull has been tearing it up on the ponds I fish. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 If you guys like frog fishing, and you can stand Dave Mercer's (Facts Of Fishing) constant giggling, he has two shows about topwater frogging. The first one he did on a SUP board and it's now on YouTube. I like it better because it's more primitive. The second he did from his bass boat and it's current this week on WFN if you have that channel. It's on DISH Network, channel 394 I believe. They're very informative and answer a lot of the questions you hear over and over about frog fishing, at least from Dave's POV. Looking at his frogs you'll see he trims a lot off the legs and leaves them uneven. It seems his opinion is, the sloppier the cover, the shorter the legs. He uses the Live Target brand. He misses a lot, but catches 22 in the bass boat episode. I think both episodes are filmed on the same body of water. Quote
