Orlando Area Fishing..

So the second week of August we will be making a trip down to Orlando to stay at the in-laws timeshare at Westgate Resorts.  Even though it is not a fishing trip per se, I will be bringing some of my tackle with me as I should be able to get out for a few hours here and there throughout the week.  My question is does anyone know of some decent bank fishing nearby?  I am pretty sure the resort is on Turkey Lake which from what i can gather, doesn't allow boats but does rent them out or maybe I am reading the regs wrong.  I am still on the fence as to whether to bring my kayak down as it is a long drive and storage once I get there may be an issue as I know most of the parking decks for the parks probably wouldn't fit my Jeep with the kayak on top.

 

Anyways, just looking for any pointers or advice you can provide.

I have stayed at the Turkey Lake Resort. It is the perfect place for a Yak. If you do not take your Yak, you will be kicking yourself in the butt...trust me. I do not believe you will have any issues storing your Yak there when you need to run around town. They let me keep my Stratos in a special secured parking area. there are some big fish in the lake and the water is spring fed.

So i just looked and while the resort is on turkey lake road, it is not on Turkey lake which looks to be further north east.  The resort is actually on Big Sand Lake but i am not sure if the resort has an access point or not to the lake because if they do, I will no doubt be checking it out and if not, it looks like there are so many places to fish around there it is ridiculous .

I have fished turkey lake in Orlando 5 or 6 times and have always caught nice fish. The rental deal is the best in the country. Just make sure to reserve a boat. There are only 5 available for the whole lake. I have caught loads especially on the north side where a stream flows into the lake. Lots of bass on stick baits, flukes, trick zoom trick worms jerked off the bottom in deep water. Good luck, a Great Lake to fish.

There is also a good map of turkey lake on line. It has all the depth changes and shows key stops. Run off a copy and take it with you.

 Big sand lake is the best lake in Orlando to fish!  Find a way to get onto that lake.

the resort rents paddle boats and kayaks and has a dock so access shouldn't be an issue.  I am going to call them this week though to make sure because it looks like i will be making a trip with the kayak and getting some early morning fishing in each day if possible.

Lakeshore  Blvd on the north end of Toho has lots of access and is on some of the deepest and most productive water on lake Toho.  If you have enough time I'll take you out with me if you want.

I haven't fished Big Sand Lake in years but chitura was right on when he said to fish it.Clear water ,lots of grass patches and good depth combined with a great population of wild golden shiners.Also make it a point to go with Lee.When I first moved here some thirty years ago I got to know a couple of guides who fished tourneys and their insight to fishing in Florida was a great help to me.
