basspro96 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I am trying to figure out how to powder paint a football jig. The mold I have doesn't accept base pins. So I have to pour the weed guard into them! And whenever I try to heat up the jig the Weedguard melts (as I expected). I have seen the heat resistant covers for the weedguards but am weary of them. All input is GREATLY appreciated! 8-) Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 30, 2009 Super User Posted June 30, 2009 I have never been successful at painting with heat after the weedguard is in place. What I have done is to make inserts that fit into my molds that don't accept pins. I use finishing nails, round tooth picks and copper wire. My football mold takes fg12 and I have found that 12g romex stripped is a perfect fit. I have dozens of pieces so I can pour many at a time without removing the pins. After I remove the pins and paint them, I have to drill out the holes so the weedguard fits but it isn't a big deal. Quote
cadman Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Jig Man is correct, don't waste your time. Plus you will never get a good paint job with the weedguard in place. Just my opinion. I use drill bits that fit in the weed guard hole. After pouring, you can open them up with a cordless drill, or you can paint them, bake them and then open them up with the correct size drill you want to use. Quote
