RMcDuffee726 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I've found a nice farm pond (very small) with a lot of great bass in it. The few times I have been fishing there I have been getting great numbers, but no size. The last time I went I hooked up to an actual decent sized fish, but I lost it when my line snapped. I know I have a high chance of catching the same fish multiple times (due to the size of the pond), but I want to know if I will be able to catch that fish I lost again? I was using a big 8 inch rubber worm, which was Texas Rigged with a 3/0 offset shank hook. Will the hook and worm fall out of the fishes mouth or not? Also if the hook or worm do not fall out of the fishes mouth do I still have a chance to catch this fish? I am also looking for the big bite, so would it be smart to continue to use the big worms too even though there is a potential that the largest bass in the pond may still have one stuck in its lip? Any responses would be awesome! Tight lines guys Quote
Ski213 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 There's certainly a good possibility that you could. A friend of mine caught a 7# several years ago out of a farm pond. He relocated it to a newly built farm pond on the same property. That fish was caught again around two weeks later and then a third time a couple months after that. All on the same lure. Most likely she's already thrown it, especially if she was mouth hooked. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 If you didn't actually see the fish you lost, you can't be 100% certain it was a bass (but I'll bet it was).Studies suggest that a bass's memory spans about 20 minutes,so you can lose that same fish several times on the same lure.IMO, the setup that you described is perfect for catching the pond matriarch.Keep hammering that little pond and I'll bet you'll eventually land your quarry Roger 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 I caught a 7 3/4 pound bass this Spring, and she had a Magnum Trick Worm, snapped-off EWG, and about two foot of line in her mouth. Don't know how recent it was, but the hook was rusted. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 6, 2015 Super User Posted July 6, 2015 Yes, she will hit our bait again. Quote

RMcDuffee726 Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 I finally got her in the middle of an absolute downpour. Smacked my Senko, and ran with it. She weighed in at 4 lb flat. I can finally sleep easy...LOL. 1 Quote
garvin Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I actually caught the same fish twice - at a 2,000 acre impoundment called Fayette County Lake. I broke off my Carolina rig shortly after setting the hook. I re-rigged, which took a few minutes, then went back to fishing the same spot (my boat was tied to a tree in the middle of a flooded forest in about 9 ft. of water) when I got another bite. When I boated the bass, it had my previous rig from the swivel to the hook in still in its mouth. Quote
