Question About The Fine Line Of Promoting Tackle Vs Relating Experiences

I like this site a lot, but have a question about the potential of being banned for promoting tackle. This is really relavent to this board since we are supposed to talk about tackle here.

I had a recent post about scent products that I was worried about mentioning the brand, because one could read the post and say it was promotional when all I was doing was relating my experiences with a certain brand. I erred on the safe side to not get banned. I will say I am not sponsored by the company, but do promote it on social media, but that wasn't the goal of the post, it was to relate something I saw over a week of fishing the same body of water.

I have noticed though if you are talking about a board sponsored product, everyone can pretty much say go buy it this stuff is the best. Just curious where that line is?

Huh? So you're saying you were worried about mentioning a brand that you liked because you thought you would be banned for that? Did you think saying "Hey, I like X product and this is why" would be construed as promotional....? Look at all the reel posts that get turned into what brand is better. This board doesn't sponsor 99% of the products talked about....you'll be fine.

So I guess rereading that, as long as I don't own the company I am ok. My post was pretty heavy handed on how awesome something worked, in a way that surprised me, so it was fully experienced based. I guess I can go and update the thread and mention it.

As for reels, if I spend 50 for one that is about the top of my price range so I stay out of those discussions;)

I did update the thread, the scent is Liquid Mayhem, and it has worked well for me.

As long as you aren't affiliated with the company or receiving some kind of kickback for pushing them it's okay, save a few companies that are notorious spammers. We all like hearing about good products that might work better

save a few companies that are notorious spammers......

And who are those companies?  We should probably know that too. :)

Ummm....no.  :)

Clayton got it right.  As long as you don't have some sort of incentive to promote said product or business, you should be ok.  Even though we do shoot down spammers, we're pretty good about sniffing out honest mistakes and firing off a warning instead.
