I've had 5lb6oz from McPherson SFL, 4lb5oz from Butler. I've seen over 7 come out of butler. I landed a 6lb7oz from a lake in town. Heard of 7s from Mac.

Bone Creek Fish

PB @ Bone Creek July 2015

Well I took the advise to head to SE Kansas got back yesterday afternoon.  Was able to fish 2 good mornings and one evening at Bone Creek.  I am glad it was suggested we didn't catch a lot but the quality of the fish was awesome.   I put 2 in the boat that tied my PB both at 18" and yesterday morning I got a new PB no monster by many, but being fairly new too bass fishing it was a monster to me.  19" @ 2.84lbs.   It turned out being one of the best fishing trips Ive ever had.  Lost one at the side of the boat that sure looked bigger than that one too almost cried :sad10: decided she didn't want to get in the boat as I reached down to grab her.

I always have heard that Mcpherson has some big ones in there.  I would like to head up there soon.  Seen a guy pull a nice 5lber punching jig through the moss.  KDWP says there are 7lbers in there. Has the highest lunker rating on their list as well.

I fish almost strictly public waters in Kansas and have caught a couple pretty nice fish through the years.

You took 4 out of those 13 pictures. That's a pretty good number considering how rarely we get to fish together.

Another PB fell on a public lake in KS, this time for 2003stratos, 6lb 15oz. Jared has been working hard and had a lot of frustrating days trying for that fish, glad he finally got a big one.

Did he crop the photo or did you? If only it was that easy to find that spot on that lake, lol (we tried)

If you've been on the lake much you'd know exactly where he was from the picture.

I cropped it for him because he's a little sensitive about other people fishing "his" lake.  :laugh5:

I thought he was trying to hide what lake he was on not the location.  Brian took care of that.

Not a once other than last Saturday.

I was gonna apologize for posting a report on that lake just now, but figured it was fairly common knowledge by now.

Just being funny.  Chris wanted to go there but figured it would be loaded with boats based on the pic. Surprised at your report that the lake was fairly empty.

It's quite the drive so I'd assume there's never too many boats, but I wouldn't know til we make it again. (SOOOON)

Brian,

Rumor has it you're the authority on Lonestar. I fished it a couple of times ten years ago while I was at KU, and I wasn't overly impressed with the size of the fish I caught. Granted, I exclusively fished the shore since my boat wouldn't fit through my apartment door.

So now I'm stuck in Topeka. I've caught some good fish out of Shawnee SFL (some nice fish, but a generally boring lake), but otherwise there doesn't seem to be great local waters. I hear I should give Lonestar a second look, and I'm encouraged by what I read. I'm making an effort the second week in September to hit Lonestar up on my way down to Bone Creek. Any advise for late summer on your local hole?

Sorry I'm getting back to you so late on this. Been a pretty busy past week.

With any luck by then the water temps will have cooled down and the fish will move back up shallow. There really isn't any bad water there. Always a good tip to just start at the beginning of the homes cove and flip the docks on your way down. The South side of the homes cove is a little deeper towards the entrance, and breaks quicker. There's also some good wood worth fishing as well. The cove adjacent to the homes cove is also a little deeper, and the grass has always produced pretty well. It get's pretty shallow about halfway back, and has some good topwater areas depending on the slop.

You should be able to find some fish. There are plenty of good ones in there, and most of us here have found them.

Thanks for the quick hitters. I'll let you know how it went in a month or so!
