Super User Cgolf Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 I won't mention the name of the scent because they aren't a board sponsor, but was amazed this week how much a scent added to my soft plastics made a difference in my catch rate. I have always believed that scent caused fish to hold a bait longer and covered any trace of our or any other off putting scent, but last week made me believe it could attract fish too. We got hit last week with one of the worst cold fronts I have seen on a trip. Catching fish was easy before the front moved in, after that was a different story. Once the front settled in, if the bait was new without scent, or all the scent hand worn off I got zero hits. As soon as I added fresh scent I might get a hit, all fish or hits were with fresh scent of scent visible on the bait. I do want to add that the color of the scent was not the trigger, because some worms were permanently stained from the scent being on the bait. Also did a test with panfish over the side of the boat, and a bait with no scent got the fish to inspect it, but not hit it. Added scent to the same bait and the fish attacked the bait and we hooked a small rock bass. The bait was held still both times. It was very interesting to see this. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 I usually fish w/scent because I feel like I get more bites. Maybe its just a confidence thing, who knows. Quote
Brett Strohl Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I've always been curious if there was anything to scents. It would be hard for me to judge, since I never know how many fish I'm not hooking up with Quote
*Hank Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I use Pro cure on all my soft plastics and it works great. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 5, 2015 Super User Posted July 5, 2015 Pro cure for soft swimbaits, when I'm not too lazy. No scent of any kind on other baits- but my plastics have one sort of smell or the other cooked in. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2015 Megastrike works great to lube up your soft swimbaits. I used to use the Gulp spray alot and felt like it helped on several occasions. Quote

The scent was Liquid Mayhem and it saved my bacon last week. Quote
