scfox11 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Has anybody fished or been on this body of water? Was looking to check it out, any info would be appreciated, thanks. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 I've been there paddling with my daughter. Haven't fished there. I believe it's canoe/kayak only. You can look it up online. In fact, people from Camden have told me Kendall Lake is better. Godale supposedly has a gator in it. There are signs about it, but we didn't see any. It's very weedy all year. A frog could be a good option. I believe there are pickerel in it too. Have you ever fished Lake Shamokin at the Shrine Club north of Camden on 521? It looks like a bass fishing postcard. I've been told you can go in from the highway but not through the club property. I've been dying to try it. I've only seen kayaks on it once in my 44 years. Quote
scfox11 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 I have never seen lake Shamokin, or Kendal and Goodale for that matter. The state park website says boats and personal craft are allowed if used by electric motor or less. I thought about rolling my jon boat to the water there. It just looks cool and inviting due to all the willow trees and what not. It looks to be very shallow, is it about 5' or less throughout the whole thing? Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 Yes, it's shallow. Most ponds around there are. And weeds at the surface almost everywhere, at least last time I was there. It looks like good fishing, but I know it gets some pressure, being a public place. Make sure you're legal. It's likely you could get checked for fish, PFD and license. Quote
Felixone Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I have been to Kendal a few times, but honestly I have struggled there. Almost all of the shallow water is choked with weeds and lily pads, and I haven't had luck finding anything in the deeper water. Having said that my profile pic was taken there so I know there are decent bass in the lake. Most of the people I have seen fishing there were fishing for bream, but I have run in to a few people fishing for bass. I have also personally seen an approximately 3' catfish swim right under my kayak. The thing was massive, and swam up out of the grass and under my boat. It just about gave me a heart attack before I realized what it was. 1 Quote

Felixone Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Do you also fish Godale? I haven't yet, but I plan to. Since the park doesn't open until 9:00 AM I waiting until after the worst of the summer is over and the water starts to cool a bit. Definitely interested in hearing from anyone who has fished there though. Quote

There are/were several gators in goodale for a long time. I have personally seen them, never in a dangerous fashion, but they exist. I used to be able to go to goodale and catch bream untili didn't want to fish anymore, nowadays you may go hours without a bite from the bank. Kendall lake is very steep and limited from the bank. I would suggest the stream that flows through the park downhill from the kendall dam, caught some nice ones build up there. If you want to bass fish in Kershaw County, use your GPS and follow Lakeshore drive in camden away from kendall dam.. there is a huge beautiful lake hidden by a great spillway Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 4, 2021 Super User Posted May 4, 2021 Since this thread started, and it is 6 years old, I have fished Kendall twice and Godale once. I caught exactly 1 bass each time. Once when I was putting in there a couple guys were taking out. They told me be there early or go elsewhere. They said they ahve no idea where the fish go when the sun gets up. I also fished Lake Shamokin, that pond at the Shrine Club on 521. Same experience. You can now bank fish at the new river park on the Hwy 1 bridge. It has a kayak/canoe landing and there's a big creek behind the park. Quote
