NEBasser101 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 My brother and I went out tonight and couldn't catch anything when it got pitch black. We got a few at dusk, (on a spook) but nothing after that. What should I fish with the next time? Thanks. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 The same stuff you would fish during the day. Quote
Todd2 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 After my performance tonight, I'd say don't throw black jigs and black worms. I couldn't buy a bite after dark. 1 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 Fish can see just fine at night. I did not get this threw my head until I was fishing in a weedy lake with a buddy in Connecticut and he was killing them on a watermelon seed trick worm. 1 Quote
ABW Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 The fish gotta eat somehow! They use their lateral lines to detect food. Use something like a single colorado spinnerbait, or something with a lot of thump. 1 Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 Rage Lobster, spinnerbaits, Buzzjet... Quote
Super User Solution Raul Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Solution Posted July 3, 2015 Under low visibility conditions: make it loud, make it thump, make it really shiny and that applies to any low visibility condition night to day. What I use at dark: Lipless cranks with or without rattles ( just in case you were going to ask if no rattles catches fish ), single cupped colorado or Tennessee blade spinnerbaits, bladed jigs with C tailed trailers ( grubs, craws and my now favorite: subwoofers ), surface lures like Jitterbugs. I´m not a big fan of worm/jig fishing in the dark, I can´t see the line well ( and before some smart comes and tells me I can use blacklight: I don´t practice fishing at dark from a boat ). So how shiny comes into the equation ? well, bass can see shiny very well under low visibility conditions. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 Does the prey bass feed on during the day change colors at night? Does the prey bass feed on during the day get noisier at night? 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 4, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 4, 2015 I fish a bladed jig and a brush jig at night and that's about it. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I've read that bass can see as well at night in the darkness of water as we humans do at night on the brightest full moon. Quote
TnLipJerkin88 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I have recently been doing a lot of night fishing for bass. It is something that I wasn't quiet use to but the more times I go the more I love it and understand it better. What I have recently had great success with is using a Ole Monster 10.5in Worm (Plum Apple) w/Tungsten 3/8 oz. sinker. I've caught some good quality Largemouth while using this on points and around shallow docks with lights. Nothing like making a good pitch, bumping it slowly on the bottom and then seeing your line start to take of before setting the hook. I love it. But good luck to ya and hope you catch some quality fish. Quote
dday07 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Seeing that sight is more difficult for bass at nite...i rely more on the other 2 senses...smell and sound...i use scented soft baits more at nite..primarily berkley baits..and more noise/vibrate lures like colorado blade spinners and boo-yah clacker buzzbaits Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 After breaking 2 Booyah Moontalker spinnerbaits due to bending them back in shape after catching a few fish, I went to Amazon and bought some 1/2 oz. Terminator original single blade spinnerbaits. I put a #6 colorado blade on it and all I can say is WOW. Like reeling in a Buick and then all of the sudden it stops dead. All I use now. Terminators won't break and transmit more vibration than standard spinnerbaits and the #6 blade thumps like you wouldn't believe. Thank God Amazon had these as they are not made anymore. Pricey but should last forever. Quote
hatrix Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Ms slammer and shell crackers really come to life at night. Actually so does a silent killer and I think they are way over looked. Any wake or subsurface bait usually does pretty good. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 At dusk/twilite when the bite slows down there eyes adjust to the change in light first before the baitfish eyes do. I switch to a Joe's fly 1/4oz firetiger apache to catch a few more bass before total darkness. Quote
Team Johnson Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Try a Rage Tail craw with some Liquid Mayhem on it. This is a tried and true mix that attacks all of the senses of the fish. The Rage Tail will be sure to get either a hunger or reaction strike and the Liquid Mayhem ensures the fish won't let go after the strike. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 My recent night tournament was won by a guy drop shotting. Quite a few bags were caught with drop shot Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 Its just like day time fishing. You try to match the lure to the conditions. I havent fished as much as some others on his forum at night but go 1 to 5 times a year for about 35 years. I almost always try to get on a buzzbait bite simply because I think its the funnest. Buzzbaits on shallow flats have put a lot of big fish in the boat. Spinnerbaits are a go to lure also , if buzzers are not working. Out deeper on the flats I use spinnerbaits , crankbaits and worms.. Lilly pads : Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits and worms . Riprap dams the same four baits . I went last week and caught one of the longest bass I ever had but it was real skinny. Wouldnt surprise me if it was an 8 lber earlier this year . I caught it shallow on a main lake point with a shallow diving crank . Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 Zoom 8" big dead ringer(red/shad) Siebert brush jig(bluegill and black/red) R.I smallie beaver(black/red) and a few different crankbaits with a custom made med. diver from Big M baits as It can be fished shallow out to about 9 ft. (TN shad) The thing I love about night fishing Is the lack of boat traffic and the sounds of the lake at night are unreal! Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 throwing buzz frogs in shallow water , some times even open water Quote
aprestonSEK Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Chart/white swim jig with a white fat albert grub, black jigs, chatterbaits, buzzbaits. Quote
