Super User rippin-lips Posted July 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 1, 2015 Looks yes, but it's still just a Tatula with a higher price tag. Lipstick on a pig basically. 1 Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Well then call me Old McDonald cuz that's one pig that will be on my farm!! Quote
John G Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Here's the new Fuego. Do you think the new Fuego will be smoother than the Alphas? Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 1, 2015 It's not out yet. Only time will tell. Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 $370 and some change. Rakuten has them. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted July 2, 2015 Super User Posted July 2, 2015 Shouldn't it be red? Fuego = Fire. I didn't know there was a Fuego baitcaster coming but I've seen pictures of the Fuego spinning reel that's due out soon. Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 2, 2015 Super User Posted July 2, 2015 I'm hoping it is less than 8 ounces and less than $300, but Daiwa doesn't seem to want to make a light casting reel out of anything other than Zaion or magnesium. Quote

My guess is it will be priced under $300, and 7.9oz or less. Since that is about the average for their 'heavier' reels. Using those 2 materials keeps the weight down. Where's the problem in that? I'd guess aluminum frame with Zion sideplate. We shall see once the specs are out on it. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 Sick of Daiwa using the Tatula frame on about every model of reel they are redoing. They would have been better off incorporating the Alphas frame on more of these especially with the new Sol than the Tatula Frame. I could achieve the same result by ordering a few custom parts off of Hedgehog Studios and add upgraded bearnings and a supertune instead of shelling out significantly more a new Zillion, Fuego, etc... This will also make folks appreciate the classics that were built on the lighter and more palmable previous gen Zillion/TDZ frame. Quote

Although I'm a Shimano guy these days I have owned and fished quite a few of Daiwa's top reels. I've previously owned a TDZ, Fuego, Zillion HS, Steez, Pixy, and the original Alphas. Out of all of these the Alphas was my favorite and it's the only Daiwa I kept. I really think you're on to something here with your comments about people enjoying the classics more so than the current generation. I really believe that I would if I were still fishing Daiwa gear. I can't say for certain though as I've not fished any newer Daiwa's. I hate to see this type of thing because Daiwa makes very good gear and they are one of the true "giants" in this sport so I like to see them doing well even if I'm not currently supporting them. I haven't kept to close of track on what all they've done in these past few years but if I were looking at buying a new Daiwa it would definitely be one of their older platforms with the new SV spool. Super User Montanaro Posted July 4, 2015 Super User Posted July 4, 2015 It does look like the tat frame but what if it's a smaller version? Tat frame is so big just to fit the twing. The fuego has no twing. Quote
Crankinstein Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 If your not a fan of the Tatula frame check out the 2015 Alphas that has the SV spool. Same frame as before just with the new spool from what I can tell and they go for around $200. I'd pick one up myself but I got an Alphas finesse custom last year and I can't put it down. Quote
