Ok, so Im sitting here at work bored on a typical Friday.  Im in the process of getting my first swimbait going and have my design drawn out on my wood and going to cut it this weekend and start shaping it.  (Pics will be added to follow my progress).  Anyways, I got to thinking about my links for the joints inbetween sections.  Well I glance over and see one of the black binder clips that are shaped in the form of a triangle and have a silver metal wire on each side to open the mouth of the clip and get it around the stack of papers you want to keep together.  My question is, if I take those metal wires off, would they work for my joints on my swimbait???  I was thinking of taking the dremel tool and carving out channels for the wires to sit in.  What do you guys think???   Maybe too much play in them???  Not strong enough???

i'm sure you could make them work... but it woudln't be the most practical way of doing it.

i'm not sure what kind of metal the wires are made of, so they might rust.

also, there will be A LOT of play in these, because of how wide the bend is in the wire.

it would be easier for you to go to the hardware store, pick up a spool of 19 guage stainless steel wire, and bend out hook hangers/joints/line ties with that. all you have to do is cut a piece about 1.5" long, put a nail in the vise, bend the wire in half over the nail and use pliers to close the hoop made by the nail.

i made a brief tutorial on making twisted wire hinges (http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1221880921), and these work great, but i've come to realize that the twisting isn't really necessary, just bending and crimping them will be good enough. this means if you're following my tutorial, you can stop at step 5 (if you're making a line tie/hook hanger) or you could stop at step 7 if you're making a hinge.

Yeah I already read your tutorial and liked it, just was bored and got the wheels turning about my swimbait.  Good point made about them possibly rusting.  I had considered using the small clips which have a smaller end section but thought it might be too much play still.
