Basswhippa Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Apparently Lake Comanche is low and they are getting the monsters. This is the new lake record. 18.17 pounds. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 Last I heard, the concensus was it's not 18 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 What I can say is its dead. So 18 lbs or not, I don't think anybody will be catching it again. 10 Quote
Basspro3106 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 if they ate the fish good for them, but if he went to the taxidermist shame on them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 1, 2015 if they ate the fish good for them, but if he went to the taxidermist shame on them. Unless you were about to starve I can't think of a good reason to eat an 18 pound bass. That fish has to taste so nasty and have such high mercury levels. Could have taken pictures, measurements and released it to get bigger and gotten a good replica mount made. Most likely someone has caught that fish at least once in it's life and released it so he had a chance to catch that monster, but now nobody else has the chance. Maybe the fish was hooked badly and wouldn't have survived regardless, who knows, just hate to see a monster that nobody else will have a chance to tangle with. 4 Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 Break out the cheese! Somebody catches a bass that is a supposed lake record and the whine begins to flow. My guess is that some vulture actually ate the real lake record, or will shortly! http://www.news10.net/story/news/local/2015/06/29/dead-fish-wash-up-at-lake-camanche/29493353/ 1 Quote

There is a pretty clear blood trail on the tail. Could have been a bad hook but nonetheless it's a shame. Quote

corn-on-the-rob Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 What someone legally does with their legally caught fish is up to them, stop whining. 5 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 1, 2015 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 1, 2015 Congratulations on a monster catch! That must have been a heck of a fight! I bet he lost his breath when he saw that giant near the surface for the first time! I knees probably would've given out. I hope someday soon to experience the thrill of catching a double-digit bass! 3 Quote
stkbassn Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 A buddy of mine eats every bass he catches...to me that's silly considering he can afford to eat anything he wants but that's his deal, not mine. He gets mad when I release my fish but I won't let him eat mine...drives him nuts but I enjoy it! LOL . It would be a shame for that fish not to be released if it was perfectly healthy and could have survived but I guess we don't know all of the details. And if it was legal to keep it then that's completely up to the person who caught it whether we like it or not. Nice bass though! I would have taken pics, weighed her and measured her, and let her go if at all possible. If she was obviously going to die then I suppose I'd take her with me to show some folks and then off to have her mounted. 2 Quote
DTack Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The fish was weighed on a certified scaled. Regardless if you think it wasn't 18.17 or not... It actually was. Certified. My understanding is the guy didn't intentionally kill the fish, more-so a bad chain of events in a low lake, old fish and time of year. 2 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 2, 2015 Super User Posted July 2, 2015 There is always a story behind the picture & original story. Based on DTack's info the fish didn't make it. If the anglers were not carrying a certified scale there was additional stress getting it to a certified scale. Lake records, state records, line class records & world records most often mean a dead fish. It's just fishing. The guy who contributed to the dead fish has probably practiced catch & release all his life. One or two dead fish is part of the game. Congrats on the new record. 10 Quote
Nice_Bass Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 It is a great fish...but good lord terrible picture lol. Dead or not I would have found a bit better of a background, without the sign, and without an extra guy in there. I sure he got some of those, but nothing ruins a big fish pick like poor background or not even holding the fish, imo. 1 Quote

First the "consensus" decides that he is lying about a certified weight, then the huggers howl about the fish kicking the bucket, and now his picture stinks! Any bets that if he wasn't standing there with that board that another whole segment of whiners would be stating as fact that he didn't catch it there! 1 Quote

Logan S Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I saw a report elsewhere online which said that they were trout fisherman...The fish was caught trolling for trout on a jointed minnow plug. They attempted to revive the fish but it didn't make it. Either way, it was legally caught so it could be legally harvested. Personally, I do everything I can to release bass alive...But I don't fault anyone for keeping anything as long as they stay within the limits and have their fishing license. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted July 3, 2015 Super User Posted July 3, 2015 (If) I catch an 18# bass and I will put out museum quality prints!!! Tell me you won't be wearing a rental tuxedo, as those things never fit all that well! All kidding aside, you may want to consider the fact that the picture you are complaining about could very well be serving the purpose of supporting the lake, marina, or a possible sponsor. Quote
TrippyJai Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 It's a shame to see that fish dead. You would think that in 2015 where everyone has a cell phone with a good enough camera, a bunch of pictures would be enough. I show people my fishing pictures all the time on my phone or upload them onto social media like facebook. With a catch that size, I would probably take a few more of the fish with a tape measure or even a short video (which everyone phone has). It's within their legal rights to do whatever they want, just sad to see. 1 Quote
