Schuyler co Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Want to try some hybrid on a jig rig, 1/4-3/8 oz jigs in 6-10 feet of water...trying to decide between Yo-Zuri and maybe P-line CX/CXX?? Unless there is another recommendation. Thinking 15-20lb line?? Always been a straight flourocarbon guy, just want to experience the differences myself. Any advice is appreciated Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 YoZuri is fine, I would´t go with CX/CXX unless I were trying to uproot them mesquite trees and huizache brush, where my baits usually hang up, to recover my baits. Kidding aside, CXX is really tough but it´s pretty much like fishing with steel wire, has more memory than a pack of elephants and coils like a friggin´ slinky, btw, line conditioners don´t "tame" it. Cgrinder Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I don't find CXX to be terribly unmanageable, but I'm used to straight fluoro so perhaps you could say that I'm just used to poorly behaving lines. Hybrid and CXX are both fine. Pay attention to diameter rather than pound test. Both lines run thick and are underrated. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Yo-Zuri Hybrid is great as is P-Line CX...I also like P-Line Floroclear. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 I like YoZuri Hybrid 12lb. I have used the 15lb and it's not bad but I find the 12lb to be a good fit for most of my set ups. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 I put 12# AN 40 on a couple reels this year. So far I am liking it. 14# is .014 diameter and 20# is .016 diameter. I don't normally go over 12# unless the reel is going on a Heavy rod. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 I use YHB in 10# for all my cranking and most of my soft plastics on smaller alphas reels. I have fished a lot of lines and I like it the best, the low price is just a great bonus. Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 For the size jigs you're talking about.... 12#yz would be ideal. If you're throwing to heavy cover though , 15# is the way to go. That's what I use either way....I like 15#. Quote
Schuyler co Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Just ordered some 12#yz....what knot do you use with the it? Palomar like I use with mono or do I tie my flourocarbon knot? Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 1, 2015 Super User Posted July 1, 2015 Both knots work well with Yo Zuri. I generally use improved clinch. One thing to watch for if you're new to YZ; 'creases' in the line are its only real downfall. If you get a bad backlash, or a messed up knot that cause the line to get a hard crease, be careful, check it well and consider removing that section. It is my only concern with it. So, if your 'flouro' knot is likely to put a real hard bend (vice smooth, round bend?) in the line, consider a different knot. Quote
kikstand454 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I use a palomar or improved cinch. Learn the thumb trick and try not to crease the line when you have a backlash. It's wonderful line. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 2, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 2, 2015 When I used Yo Zuri for bottom contact presentation's I used the double SDJ knot and never had a problem. Don't use the line anymore for plastics, but still use the same knot. Mike 1 Quote

But, when you wrap the doubled line over the main line no need to wrap 6 times as recommended when tying the single. With 20# test line wrapping 3 times is sufficient, 4 or 5 times for 15# or less.
