Super User HoosierHawgs Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 Going to the Gulf Coast (Sanibel Island) next June/July. Was wondering what are good techniques to catch Snook or other fish in the surf from the beach? What is some gear/setups I should look into? I'd be interested in both fly, and conventional tackle. I'd like to spend no more than $150 on a setup. I'd also like it to be at least a 2 piece rod so I could store it with everything else we would be lugging along. The shortest rod I could get away with would be my preference as well. All opinions appreciated. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 My buddy just moved to Oregon (seaside) and purchased a nice surf fishing set up from basspro. Think it was around $140 or so. As far as bait, I've heard most people say shrimp/squid do a great job. I'm heading to Hilton Head Island SC in 10 days but won't be doing any surf fishing. I'll be fishing the lagoon system and a private lake! Good luck 1 Quote

I've been surf fishing before, my uncle lives in Florida and we go fishing in Ponte Vidra quite a bit, but never paid attention to what we were using, besides the fact we usually used shrimp. I'll have to ask him. Thanks for the info! Quote
