I think we should try and entertain this idea, again. I'll post a few separate topics about different types of lures and see your thoughts on the best and worst.

It'll give new posters as well as vets on this site an opportunity to find answers and/or give their input in one place.

This installment will be on FISHING RODS and your thoughts.

Questions to Consider:

  • What is your favorite rod? Is it technique specific? What's the price and specs?
  • Where did you purchase your fishing rod?
  • Why do you recommend?

I hope ya'll think this could be a good idea. If so, let's get this going!

NOTE: QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER ARE QUESTIONS YOU CAN USE IN YOUR ANSWER TO SHED LIGHT AND MORE DETAIL TO YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T VERY "KNOWLEDGEABLE" ON THE SPECIFIC TOPIC.

I carry up to five rod setups or more for shore fishing.

1. Med/hd 7' spinning rod 14# line topwater baits.

2. Med 6'6" spinning rod 12# test spinnerbaits/inlines, deeper cranks

3. Med 6'6" spinning rod 17# rest c rigs, senkos/brushogs/split shot rig.

4. Med 6' spinning rod 8# test for shallow cranks and med size blade baits.

5. Lt action 5'6" spin rod 6# test small baits.

6. Med 6'6" baitcaster rod 12# test for jigs.

I shop for sales, clearances, closeouts. On reels n rods.

My favorite is the falcon cara 7'4" mclelland series. It is really great for jigs. I am on a college fishing team and with my discount it runs about 126.00 dollar. I bought it off of tackle warehouse.

For anything big I absolutely adore the Megabass Super Red Demon. It is rated up to eight ounces.

I currently have a Lin Black Jungle on her, loaded with braid, and I couldn't be happier. I look for an excuse to use this stick.

I purchased it from the Tackle Trap.

On the other end of the spectrum I adore the 7'1"MH Cumulus and Core 51 combo...haven't found a better one for the Baby Rage Craw.

I purchased it from TW.

My favorite rod is the Dobyns DX 744. It retails for $350 but you can find it for less. I purchased it from an old BR sponsor (not sure if I can say his website so if interested just message me) I love this rod because it is perfectly balanced, very sensitive, has great cork/great look, and you can use it from pretty much anything.

So let me ask this question to poke more information here.

Currently, I have a 6'6 MF rod and a 5'7 light rod. I need to juice up my arsenal, obviously.

Which lures are BEST to throw on either set-up. Please, nobody say "no setup is good with those" lol

A 5'7" rod?? Seems a strange length.

The light rod sounds about right for panfishing. Maybe the ned rig thing too?

Yeah, I use it with my worms. I've caught some good fish with it bass fishing and a few nice walleye.

I'll get the exact specs here soon

St. Croix Avid 7' MF paired with a Shimano Chronarch 200E7. I got the reel at Bass pro and the Rod off a fellow member. Awesome combo, I can throw just about anything on it....top water, spinner bait, square bill, lipless, light jig/trig, etc. the list goes on and on.

Plastics...Fenwick Techna AV MH/F (Light and Sensative)

Frog, soft swimbait, Carolina Rig...Falcon "Carolina Lizard Dragger"

(Heavy enough to handle it all and loads better than any rod I own)

Spinnerbait/Chatterbait...Phenix M1 MH/F (Light, balanced, loads well and strong)

Punching/Heavy cover...Quantum Smoke H/XF (Feather light, powerfull but still not over powering when used to make short cast's

Just bought an older (black) G Loomis GLX MBR 843C just because.
