KyBassin Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 while i was wishin i was fishin i got to wondering if any of you ever put scent in your tubes or on jigs? id definitely like to try this next time out but have no clue on a brand worth anything, and for those of you who do, which flavor? i figured crawfish would make most sense for smallies.. thanks. Snakehead Whisperer Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The only scent I ever use for smallies is Spike-It Lure Dye. I use it mostly to dye the lure, but also to cover my scent. I'm not necessarily convinced that it works as an attractant though. Anise scent is an old favorite for smallmouth. The Spike-It "Gamefish" flavor is anise scented. I also have had good results with the Crawlic (garlic/crawfish) scent. I also use Keitech Swing Impacts and Jackall Cross Tail Shad's quite a bit, and both have a squid scent that definitely does not deter smallies from crushing them. 1 Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 BANG Pure Craw or Anise is what I use. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I rarely throw a plastic without some kind of scent on it for smallies (or largies). For me it's a confidence thing. I regularly use Spike-It chartreuse garlic and crawlic, and have also just started using the original Megastrike. Does it produce more strikes? Get them to hold onto the bait longer? I don't know, but my mind tells me it makes a difference and that's all that matters. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 I use megastrike craw scent for my tubes. Dip the tips in a little chartreuse jj's from time to time. 1 Quote
stepchild Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I actually don't use any scent on my plastics. The ones I use the most are already caffeine/salt impregnated to the point that I feel that adding more doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 I like to "grease" the hook bend when I T-rig a soft plastic bait. It provides a benefit to my light line use by reducing the hook setting force I need. oe Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 I don't remember the last time didn't use Megastrike on any plastics I fish for smallmouth. I'm so use to doing it now that I'm sure my confidence would be shattered without it! 1 Quote
bradc36 Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Berkley gulp and PTL hog tonic, and a homemade scent that I think does well on a particular body of water. Quote

egladding Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I have a buddy that swears by liquid mayhem. He consistently catches huge 4lb+ smallies. He's caught them over 6 also. http://liquidmayhem.ca/p/319/l/375/t/best-fish-attractants,-Best-bait-for-bass-Fishing,-Fish-bait,-Fishing-lure-Liquid-Mayhem-Fish-Attractants Quote
