I want the most versatile style jig something i can use for just swimming back to the boat as well as hopping and bouncing it on the bottom. i know there are many types (swim, football, arkie) but what would most likely fit my situation? and what color work best for you?

Much will depend on your water.....Submerged trees?  Logs lying on bottom?  Grass?  Heavy weeds?  Rocks?  Big rocks?  Gravel?  Sand?  Stained water?  Clear?

Have you seen these two threads already?  Is there an echo in here.....?

I don't think one jig can do it all but the Arkie jig is pretty close to being able to do it all.

With color you only need 2-3 a Black and Blue, Green Pumpkin, and what ever Brown variant works best for you (PBJ, solid brown, brown and orange, brown and black, ect.) You don't need to over complicate jig color just use simple color that works for you and stick with it.

You said the most versatile jig, to which I'd say the "Ballhead" jig.

As soon as we deviate from a perfect sphere, we're dabbling in specialization.

The Northstar Flip'n swim was made to flip/pitch as an initial presentation then swam back to the boat. Nothing saying you couldn't hop it all the way back.
