Ok so I am confused I guess.  I use jigs alot.  Mostly flipping.  But Why is it so hard to find a dark red/black or dark red/dark brown colored jig?  Seems like they are all greens and purples or black and blue.  I saw a craw in the river yesterday and it was the exact color of a berkley vampire orange pit boss.  Arent we trying to mimic craws here lol.  I know they change colors throughout the year and places in the country but mostly they are red to my knowledge.  With that said I usually throw a green pumpkin/purple or pb&j colored jig with a lot of success.

Lots of jigs with red out there, just have to look past BPS to find them :) plenty of custom guys out there too that will do whatever color you want for a fair price. Get in touch with Mike at Seiberts and I'm sure he can hook you up.

Maybe because the Cajun line folks convinced all of us about ten years ago that red equals invisible.

Dang, I must be on the wrong frequency, hook manufacturers convinced me red was the way to go since red "looks like blood".

There are times you can't beat a red jig on Table Rock.

It was before my time, but I thought I read an article that said black/red was at one time more popular than black/blue?

Siebert makes a color called Falcon Lake Craw. If you re looking for a green pumpkin and red jig I would suggest that.

'Red' is the first color in the light spectrum to disappear, which turns to 'black' just a few under water.

'Black' is one of the most popular of all lure colors, so how bad can the color 'red' be?

Fishermen enjoy discussing color, but I'm not convinced that color has any affect on a fish's appetite  :D

My craws in ponds and lakes have black backs with red sides. In the rivers / streams they look beige like stream craws.

Look at Sieberts outdoors for your color. Mike is very flexible maybe he can make your color if you ask him?

Color matters, bass see certain colors under certain lighting conditions. Sunlite, hues in the water influences what colors the bass can see at that moment. I try to match the natural bait colors in clear to slightly stained water.

Match the hatch in fly fishing also goes for bass fishing.

We have Red Swamp Crayfish on the Tidal Potomac. Not surprising a Red Shad ribbontail plastic worm is a good producer.

Having the correct color for your area, adding a rattle and a shot of scent does increase your chances too. I like to use a trailer and a trailer hook too.

Well that puts some insight on it. It just seemed like I should be matching the hatch is all but like some of you said sometimes color doesn't matter that much it seems lol.

90% of the time I tie a jig is solid black, I do have a few brown & orange plus several white & silver ( which I use mainly for swim jigging ) and so far I haven´t found any evidence that other color than black is better than black. I pay more attention to the trailer ( size, shape, form, etc ). You don´t have to "match" a dang thing

C´mon man, you do perfectly know you gotta put some crawfish traps to ketch´em crawfish to find out which color they are to match them, gee, why do I have to explain you everything in detail ? :Idontknow:

Forgot to add: and why on earth you want to match them crawfish with your jigs ? bass don´t eat them of the bottom.

I guess it depends where you fish.  I'm not a believe in "color doesn't matter".  Someone can show me all of the science they want but if I bring you on my boat, and fish behind you while you throw straight black or straight brown... and I'm throwing a color of my choice, we can see how science holds up 200 days out of the year.  I just choose to put the odds in my favor, I could care less what someone is "trying to sell me" as all colors cost the same from skirts unlimited no matter the color and it's easy to tie them myself so I'll go with the colors I have confidence in because they have outfished others.
