Mumpy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Like how do I go about getting My Jigs on the shelves at Walmart or Dicks Sporting Good, places like that. Any Tips to this would be great Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 You may as well forget the big boys. They buy in such quanity, THEY tell YOU what they will pay per piece. I've never seen local or homegrown baits at these stores. You are better off trying to sell your baits through a local store. Even then, you may have to give a bunch away just to get a 'buzz' going, hopefully a positive one. Only then you have a shot at the store owner putting them on the shelves. Best of luck, just be realistic about it. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 When was the last time you saw anything actually made in the USA sold in a Wally World with a label that stated "Made In The USA"....?? You could also build your own on-line store..... Just a thought......... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
The_Natural Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The Walmarts around here have Lake Fork Tackle baits....but as said, if they can't buy'em cheap....they won't carry your product. Quote
zbass Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Try your local tackle stores first. You won't be in the "name" stores unless they come to you. Local stuff is better. As mentioned before, make a webstore and you can call your own shots. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 18, 2009 Super User Posted May 18, 2009 Visit with the people and put your baits on consignment. Be sure to discuss their take, too Wal Mart may be a hard nut to crack as they want volumn. Smaller tackle shops would be better suited to your homemade baits. Quote
harshman Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I agree with the small shops being the place to start and an online store. For a reasonable fee you can start you're own website and advertise on Bassresource. I even use fellow tourney anglers as a way to sell more baits, sctatch their backs with a few baits and if they like them they will tell their friends, and their friends tell their friends and so on. "Sponsoring" guys with lures is also a great research and devlopment tool on how you might be able to improve your baits. I have had my guys come up with colors that I would have never tried. just my 2cents worth Harshman Quote
Mumpy Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 First I would like to thank all of your input. I have done exactly what Sam has suggested. I've personally went to the smaller tackle shops and have been getting my Jigs on their shelves on Consignment. I think I'm going to go the Sponsor a tournament fisherman as my next move. The key is to get the Jigs on as many shelves as possible and then to get the word out. So I think Consignment is a win win situation for getting them in the stores and sponsoring a Tournament Fisherman is a good way to get the word out. The only thing I don't like about an Online Store is the fact that it's a Marketing nightmare. Quote
Mumpy Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Also, how do I advertise on Bassresource? Thanks again Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 build a website and post links in your bios on here or say myspace or facebook, post ads in your local paper and hit up local tackle joints around you.good luck Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Also, how do I advertise on Bassresource? Thanks again Fill out the advertise on BR link at top. Quote
jsettnek Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Give out a few samples. The best way to get into Dick's or Bass Pro is to have guys in there asking if they carry your baits. Dick's does carry some homegrown baits. I picked up some cool hand pour plastic worms in a North Carolina store with a label on it I could make on my home printer. Quote
