Super User Jeff H Posted June 28, 2015 Super User Posted June 28, 2015 Anybody else use/like these? I am using them more all the time and find I like them a lot. Now, I'm moving them into use on some smaller finesse baits as well since I found some in #4 and #2 sizes. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 28, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 28, 2015 LOL...nobody likes these hooks? I admit they do need some attention with the hook file but not a big deal to me. It's nice to be able to clip a weight to them, becomes almost like a Zeka rig then. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 29, 2015 Super User Posted June 29, 2015 Nope never used them. If I get the idea of the hook, it prevents the bait/worm from sliding up the hook. IMHO, if a fish hits the bait, these hooks would cause the bait to rip easily since it has no place to go. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 29, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 29, 2015 Yes, basically an abject failure When they were first designed, tubes were not the double and triple dipped salt loaded behemoths we use today and those thick nosed tubes are even a problem for that little clip. The hooks have their negatives but they also do really well at what they were designed for (finesse tubes). Yes, they will tear the nose up on something like a Senko. I guess that doesn't bother me a whole lot. If I get one fish for every bait I use I'm happy, multiples is even better of course! The tip tends to ride up a little bit too and collect more grass than some other designs. I still like them though. I've caught a lot of fish on them. Quote
Kidflex Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Been usin them since they came out in the 90's. The tubes back then were not as soft and supple as they are now. The baits held up pretty good. Good hook just needs sharpening. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 29, 2015 Super User Posted June 29, 2015 There are a lot of guys still using that hook, if there wasn't it would have been discontinued by now. I use to use them until the Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Tube hook came out, now I use that instead, and before people complain about the Eagle Claw hooks, remember, there are a few different lines. The black nickel lazer sharp models are really good hooks, the only difference between the Trokar model tube hook and the laser sharp is the point, the Trokar has a cutting point, the Lazer sharp has a needle point, if you want a good tube hook the Lazer sharp is the way to go and it needs no sharpening. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 29, 2015 Super User Posted June 29, 2015 I have some of these hooks and I wasn't impressed with them when they came out several years ago. I bought several packages, both new at full price and then in various close out bins. I tried them on several different brands of tubes and didn't like how they worked. On further review, it occurs to me that all the tubes I tried them all were fairly thick bodied tubes. The notion of these hooks being designed expressly for thin walled tubed never occurred to me. Somewhere in my extensive collection of stored & ignored plastic baits, I'm pretty sure there are some thin walled finesse tubes. This is another thing for me to put on my test & research list, i.e. Grgsb hooks on finesse tubes. I'm pretty certain that I will get to this project before this decade is over. Quote
Silas Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I've used them on the original Gizit tube and they worked well. There are even small weights that slide up to the nose of the tube that have a small eye on them that you thread the hook through. Nice and weedless. Of course you have to use the thin walled Fat Gitzits! Quote
