jtharris3 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Does anyone use straight braid when fishing a Shakey head? Quote
jtharris3 Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Do you feel that you're at a disadvantage with no floro leader? Quote
AdamsEye Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I am positive that at times I am very much at a disadvantage, but for the most part I don't fish heavy pressured or clear waters. I have and do fish it with a floro leader, but most of the time it's not needed. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 27, 2015 Super User Posted June 27, 2015 No. Fluorocarbon has good transmission and it does very well. Use the lightest test possible 8 pound test works very well for Shaky Head. 10 pound test if you fish it in brush piles. If you want to use braid then use a long fluorocarbon leader. Quote

Say around 6 - 7 feet long, or longer than that...? Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I also do (30lb.)and I also use straight Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Water clarity is what I base my decision on. I don't use braid with a leader, it's either one or the other. Quote
ItsTig Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I have never tried. I have always used flurocarbon or flurocarbon coated co-polymer. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 29, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 29, 2015 I use braid with a short leader, maybe 2 or 3 feet. I never thought I'd like fishing a shakyhead with braid but now I'd never go back. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 29, 2015 Super User Posted June 29, 2015 There isn't any problem using braid without a leader, just remember you are using a finesse technique and if you bend the hook it isn't the hook that is the problem. Quote
