Does anyone use straight braid when fishing a Shakey head?

Posted

Do you feel that you're at a disadvantage with no floro leader?

I am positive that at times I am very much at a disadvantage, but for the most part I don't fish heavy pressured or clear waters. I have and do fish it with a floro leader, but most of the time it's not needed.

No.

Fluorocarbon has good transmission and it does very well.

Use the lightest test possible

8 pound test works very well for Shaky Head.

10 pound test if you fish it in brush piles.

If you want to use braid then use a long fluorocarbon leader.

Say around 6 - 7 feet long, or longer than that...?

I also do (30lb.)and I also use straight Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Water clarity is what I base my decision on. I don't use braid with a leader, it's either one or the other.

I have never tried. I have always used flurocarbon or flurocarbon coated co-polymer.

I use braid with a short leader, maybe 2 or 3 feet. I never thought I'd like fishing a shakyhead with braid but now I'd never go back.

There isn't any problem using braid without a leader, just remember you are using a finesse technique and if you bend the hook it isn't the hook that is the problem.
