Cootz Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Hey guys I was wondering if it would be ethical to install a steering wheel in a 15-16 flat bottom Jon boat? I saw a YouTube vid and his turned out very noce Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 27, 2015 Super User Posted June 27, 2015 A friend of mine ran a 16' Lowe jon with a wheel for 25 years. Quote
zachb34 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I think he means logical, but yeah if you plan on making a lot of long runs it would be more comfortable. I want to put a steering wheel amd console in my boat, but the steering and throttle cables are pricey. Small consoles can also be a task to find unless you make one yourself. People say it just takes up fishing space which I don't understand personally. I fish up front and my guest fishes on the back bench seat. Quote
curtis9 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Console will take up a ton of space in a small boat. Stick with a tiller motor in a jon boat Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted June 28, 2015 Super User Posted June 28, 2015 If it's wide enough and you have the room. After all, you can buy 16' jons with a little console and steering wheel already installed. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted June 28, 2015 Super User Posted June 28, 2015 That's a lot of work, that's for sure. If I wasn't dead-set on it for a specific reason I'd just stick with the stick. Quote
SHaugh Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This system seems to be small enough and not over expensive: http://www.boatstogo.com/central-console-inflatable-boat.asp I think it would be a nice addition to any boat... Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 29, 2015 Super User Posted June 29, 2015 There will be some cost to it for sure. I'd check into the cost of controls and cables first as well as the cost to convert your tiller into remote steer unless you have a remote steer motor you can put on it. As far as the console, you could build your own pretty cheap, the controls will be the expensive part. Quote
KyBassin Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 my 16 footer came set up like this, im sure its factory.. but it definitely doesnt affect fishing space! Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted June 30, 2015 Super User Posted June 30, 2015 I think it would be morally reprehensible. ; ) Quote
