We were by ourselves tucked away in the corner of the building, away from the general population, until a couple weeks ago. Due to overwhelming growth of the company, and limited space, the higher ups moved the billing team in with the tradesmen. It's been a bit of a rough ride with me having to watch what I say. The other hvac guy is a bit like me in the fact he really doesn't give a crap on what other people think. These whiny women have decided they need every light in the room on. We were just fine with 1 light and the sunlight coming thru the windows. Well, the other hvac guy was so fed up yesterday he said he's going to cut the wires. He gets in early this morning and unscrewed 48 fluorescent bulbs in the light fixtures. No one says a word until the office gopher comes in and hits the switch. Nothing.... He flips it on and off a few times and gets on the phone to the building engineer. 3 stationary engineers couldn't figure out what was wrong so they called an electrician. Took him about 15 minutes. Well the queen of the whiners went immediately to her boss. As she walked out the door, she says "Someone is going to be in trouble".  Her boss actually thought it was hilarious. The higher ups found out thru the building engineers and they're ticked. The building is charging them for the service call.

Take all the pens and hide them...ALL of them.  Then after a while of not being able to write anything stage finding them in the most annoying guy's desk.

You're in for the worst "prank" EVER. You now know its coming and there its NOTHING anyone can do to stop it. Every woman in that office will over time have their biological clock synchronize, I think its just cruel. They will all have pms simultaneously, I feel sorry for you.

BTW, I really like the air horn idea. Other ideas include hiding a fart machine in the most annoying one's desk. They cost something like 10 bucks and come with a remote. Having the ability the embarrass them on demand is priceless. Sit out a dish of the jelly beams my son has, watching their expression eating a barf or skunk spray jelly bean would be worth the effort. Velcro the phone handset to the base, unhook the computer keyboard, send flowers to one using the name of another one's boyfriend, or from one of the other women, just to name a few.

There's a good chance these fellow employees are another man's Mother, Wife and/or Daughter.

Along with being mean there seems to be a contempt for women, especially in the workplace.  Not only as A-Jay eludes to, many women go home at the end of the work day, clean the house, wash clothes, manage the children, do much of the shopping and iron their old man's tighty whities.   Then listen to their husbands whine about how they can't catch bass or how hard they work siting on the couch after dinner belching on a beer.  A woman's role can be quite demanding and they do it for 75% of what men make.  Are many of these women working because they want to, probably because it takes 2 paychecks now a days to make ends meet.  I think they deserve some respect.

A Jay and Snook. What happened to going to work, doing your job, and going home? Most of these women are not whiny, but the 2 or 3 that are, whine enough to disrupt the majority.

Snook, people make their own beds they must lay in. If they dont like that bed, then its time to change the sheets. Respect is earned and work isnt a popularity contest. Do your job. If you dont like it, you know where the door is.

I'm going to agree with slo on this one I think you guys are thinking he's after women it's just them type of people in the work place man or women. We had the same thing going on at work people whining and causing drama and it's a shop with 20 people 19 guys 1 girl and it's the guys who do the whining and crying. Pranks started and that just made things worse but it amused us(super glued key holes on locks to toolbox, dead mice smoking a cigarette on tool boxes, pen15 drawn in the dust in people's work station stupid stuff like that). People just complained about everything who had better tools why is on third shift keep getting raises and get the bonus when others don't. They would tell the management how to do things or tell them no when asked to do something. Got to the point the owner got fed up hearing about this and said exactly what slo did. Don't like it can't come in and work do your job in a reasonable manner and not get butt hurt over the smallest things then there's the door. He used a lot of colorful French words though. 3 people have been canned since then and all were office staff and the slackers on the floor have straightened up a little the owner now comes twice a week instead of only at Christmas maybe to give us cards.

It's not about women it's just who happens to be doing it at slo work place. I say keep the prank war going personal fav of mine is like the air horn on the chair but instead under the toilet seat. Tape a pencil or dowel to the button long enough to just raise the seat a little and enough to press the button. Scare the crap out of them litterly and being its women it will work every time they sit we stand haha.

What did some of you guys forget about women's rights? Equality? :Victory:

That ain't today unless a women is a stay at home mom. Same amount of men do all the chores/family care now. But how can we really tell what's going on in marriages, considering how bad the divorce rate is every year and the reasons behind them.

Far as women getting paid 75%, that's false, those statistics need to add the facts in that included more time off taken by the woman (their choice) either it be maternal, personal, or care giving. FMLA could be up to 12 weeks a year.

As a Professional Supervisor, a major part of your job description is to manage personnel.

When a group of employee's, not directly supervised by you, are negatively effecting you, the personnel you supervise, and the job your paid to do, first advise your supervisor.  Then, if directed to do so, get together with the human who is responsible for these employees.  Unless there is a major safely issue, addressing personnel not under your responsibility is incorrect and not part of your job description.

Managing people is challenging.  Change & stress always affect humans in some way - you're showing signs of it here.  Take a step back and re-read this thread.

In Every Form, "Pranks" are disrespectful and self-serving, plain and simple.

I have worked with a female complainer and I have worked with a male complainer. When it was a female I would always detour around her as fast as I could and maintained my distance throughout the day. When it was a male I invited him into the restroom so we could settle up man-to-man. I'm so lucky I'm now retired :)

Sometimes when you escalate a situation you end up with the short end of the stick. Practical jokes are fun, but you got to know when to laugh when the joke is on you and just move on.

It's pretty obvious who has worked in trades and who hasn't. Tradesmen many times have tedious and dangerous jobs and playing pranks on each other relieves the stress, and on many job sites it's non stop and good natured, no disrespect intended. I don't see this as an attack on women in general rather good natured fun. I once removed the helm from a cutter and hid the pieces all over the base, I was nice enough to leave clues. Another time caught a snake and hid it on the rhib some Army Rangers were training in, they didn't really appreciate it tho, some ppl just don't have a sense of humor. ;) Anyway this thread and many comments made illustrate the absurdity of the political correct society we are now forced to live in. If ya read slone's original post it was a man who first blew the whistle, then the "queen of the whiners" decides to involve the bosses, why? As stated in the post get someone in trouble, unnecessarily. Who made her the supervisor of the ppl in the room?  I'd be willing to bet that this particular person demands special treatment because she is a woman, but screams inequality whenever she feels the least bit slighted. FWIW both my Mother and Ex-wife have stated more than once that they would rather work with men than women.  That in general women caused discord in the work place by continual complaining, backstabbing, and gossip.  I've served with women and also have been employed by and supervised by women, I never had any issues.  The only time that I was annoyed was the few times when women demanded equality but then expected special treatment; ya can't have it both ways.

The woman stirring the pot started off on the wrong foot. There was a window seat that was reserved for my bosses fiancé. The billing department moved in with us and within the first week the whiner had complained she had seniority, she should have the window seat. Well, the bosses fiancé lost her window seat. They gave it to another tradesman. The tradesmen all pitched in and bought our own fridge. She was upset about this as well and believes she has every right to use it. That's the mentality I'm dealing with.

What I find most amusing is how it bothers the guy who did the prank in the first place. I believe it's my duty to egg him on. It's part of the culture in the trades

If I'm reading this correctly, I am not in a management position. I'm just a working stiff like the rest of them.
