Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 25, 2015 Super User Posted June 25, 2015 I own an older, well beat up aluminum canoe that now has a tiny pin hole in the hull. I plan to duct tape the hole on the inside as a backing and rub a little J-B Weld on the outside of the hole. Who can offer a better plan to fix the pin hole? Thanks oe Quote
nosdog2 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Have any friends with a tig welder? Perhaps find a local muffler shop or something they should be able to put a bead on it and then you can grind it down smooth. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 25, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2015 I don't know what a tig welder is... I'm not even looking to have it smooth, this canoe already has the snot beat out of it! oe Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted June 25, 2015 Super User Posted June 25, 2015 I think there are better epoxies for aluminum, Marine Tex is one, but for a small repair, it will probably hold just fine. Clean it good and scuff it good with 60 grit before you apply any of them. They also make a repair cement that comes like a stick, that you melt onto the spot that's made especially for aluminum repair. I have a couple of places I have fixed years ago and still holding strong. Quote

Gerber54 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 you can get a hand rivet gun and rivets from harbor freight for $15-$25. Use some marine grade silicone with the rivet for a clean watertight repair. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 1, 2015 JB Weld makes a product just for aluminum. I used some on my old johnboat and it fixed a much more serious tear than what it sounds like you're dealing with and never leaked at all. Quote
