I looked at a bunch of different sites that say the Wilderness System Tarpon 120 and the Perception Pescador 12.0 are the same kayak. But if you look at Dimensions one says pescador is 28" wide and Tarpon 30" wide. any information would be great. Im looking at an older WS Tarpon 120 it has Tupperware hatches. Any info on these would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

if the tarpon doesnt have the newer orbix hatches, then it should be the same as the pescador.  I'm not sure but I think even the older tarpons had better seats than what you'll get on the pescador.  the current tarpon is a different hull and has a much better seat than the pescador

The Pescador is a pre 2009 Tarpon, in 09 WS updated the Tarpon. I believe it not only got a new seat but the hatches were changed, it got the slide track system and they made it a bit wider to accommodate the changes. Both a great kayaks, I spent about three years in a Pescador 12. I really liked it it was a great kayak.

I even caught my personal best rod and reel fish in that kayak.

ah, how could I forget about the slidetrax.  its a great feature to have on my Tarpon 120 and Commander 120.  I can move rod holders and my fish finder between the two kayaks.  however, you could always add a track system to the pescador as well.  the hatches dont matter much IMO unless you are doing an overnight trip or fishing the ocean or great lakes

the older tarpons are lighter, narrower and tippy. I don't know the year change, but I had two used and got rid of them due to the ease of rolling over...they were light and fast tho.

I have an 08 tarpon140. Then one the pescador is modeled after.(only 14 ft.) It is neither light nor tippy. I have zero issues fishing out of it...... But there will be no standing. Lol. I did it twice....and thatll be all of that.

It has served me well and there is hardly a better paddling/faster yak to be had . The pescador will be a fine fishing platform- especially if you want to cover some distance.

Fin stalker- that is a mighty fine "big ugly" there. Wtg!

Thanks kikstand, that thing drug me around for I don't know how long. haha.

As far as the Pescador goes my only real issue with it was the seat. To say the factory seat is uncomfortable is an understatement. For overall performance the entire Tarpon line of boats are spot on. Wilderness Systems did a great job with those kayak both the old and new design.

Fin stalker, look up the ACK "gone fishing" seat.

It is the best thing you can get for the old style yaks. I love mine. I also went to sporting goods store and got one of those foam stadium cushions and use it when I know I'm going to be out 6hrs or more.

The two of them make a world of difference!

I keep reading some reviews about the pre 08' models being little tippy. Is this what is experienced  by anyone.

I have that same kayak and love fishing from it. Can you stand in yours? I haven't tried.

Sold her about 18mo ago. I could stand in it but not well enough to fish from. I've been through a couple since then and have a new boat on the way, but honestly I really liked that kayak it just didn't quite fit my needs. Today I'm on a Trident 13 and couldn't be happier. I think it's one of the most underrated kayaks on the market. If you get a chance to paddle one you should do it.
