BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Hey guys! Went out to my local pond today and caught a decent largemouth on some topwater today. I forgot to bring my scale with me, but by the looks of him I'd say this is my PB. Nothin too big compared to the hawgs I've seen on BR but for me... well I'm excited! What do you guys think it weighs?? To me I think it's a solid 3 at least (P.s. I'm a pretty big guy so the fish might look a little small compared to me lol) 7 Quote
clh121787 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 2.5 # ish. Nice fish. Every one to me is a nice catch Quote
kingmotorboat Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Nice hammer man. My p.b. is a little over 5 but don't be ashamed you're catching fish and having fun that's what matters the most. P.b. ain't nothing but a number Quote
Turtle135 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 nice looking largemouth, congrats! did you get a length? Quote
Missourifishin Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Yeah, I don't think that one weighs 3 either. The guys who said 2.5 are probably pretty close in my opinion. Still, that's a nice bass. Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 nice looking largemouth, congrats! did you get a length? Unfortunately I have nothing to account for pertaining size of this one. I didn't think I'd get a good catch today, honestly! Lol Here's a pic when it was flailing. Better lighting Quote
BooyahMan Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Should've gotten me to hold it. I make 2.5's look like 4's Solid fish man. I'd be happy with one of those any day of the week. 1 Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Good job man, not quite 3 but a healthy looking fish. I spent all day yesterday in my college club tournament only to catch a 13.5" fish that only weighed 14oz. Very skinny fish, but was happy because the lakes we fish sometimes catching even one is a challenge, and plus I got him on a technique I'm not experienced in. What is your official personal best? shimmy Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 What you are looking for won't be confirmed here. Get a scale. I am guessing you are getting better at fishing and this is the next step. Much easier than guessing. Congrats Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 I was going to say 2.5#'s too but it's hard to say from a picture with no point of reference. Nice fish though! Quote
Canyon explorer Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I think it is a solid 2.5 lbs. Your 3 lb. estimate indicates you are learning" Bass Fishing" very quickly. 8-). Well Done. Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 What is your official personal best?since I am a bank angler primarily, everytime I catch a decent bass I never have my scale on me! Lol thankfully I do have the Rapala digital scale. Small enough to fit in my pocket... which is where it will be everytime I hit the water gettin now on! 1 Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Not that it matters, but that could easily be a 3 pounder. I reference the size of the mouth to the hand holding the fish. Big hand, big mouth. Keep at it! I caught my first 3+ in 2010 later that year my first 5 followed. The next year caught a bunch of 4 pounders. Then came a surprise 8-13. It will get better and better! BTW, hide your scale in your back pack. Then the biggies will think you don't have one. That is when they bite! 1 Quote

It always seems as if the good ones come least expected or when you're not lookin lol I won't be forgetting my scale again that's for sure! Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Here Is my first decent bass ever. Last year September 10, 2014 at about 730-8pm. Same pond. WHICH ONES BIGGER!?! This one or my new one LOL Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 Great fish whatever it weighs! Here's a tip - get a simple grip scale, and if you have belt loops, attach it to one while you're bank fishing. Works great. While I have a Boga Grip now, I also have one of these and it is rather accurate as I test it often. My boys use it now: http://www.basspro.com/EconoScale-Fish-Scales/product/90579/ Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 i currently have this scale http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12466434&camp=CSE:GooglePLA:12466434:11961183:TACKLE&CAGPSPN=pla&CAWELAID=120138600000139756&catargetid=120138600002990275&cadevice=c i just keep forgetting to bring it with me! silly me, lesson learned lol fisher-o-men you think so? from the pictures the old one does seem larger... however its hard for me to remember :/ Quote

Lol Here's a pic when it was flailing. Better lighting One thing you can do in a pinch is clip a piece of line the same length as the bass (you can do the same thing for girth) then you can get a weight estimate with various formulas. 1 Quote

I never thought of that. Not a bad idea. I do have a bag with 2 big plano boxes inside and it has a couple side pouches. I keep a ruler in there and the scale as well.. just keep forgetting to bring it! Lol maybe I'll get a pocket sized tape measure Quote
*Hank Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 They'll just get bigger through learning on BR! Congrats on a new Pb! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 24, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 24, 2015 Looks like it could be 3 to me. Nice fish regardless of what it weighs! Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 If the "reel contest" fish is 3-15, that is definitely a 3+!!! Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Thanks everyone! And I never would have guessed 3-15 for Glenn fish. I thought 5+! Quote
