Janderson45 Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 WRB- I like the thought, and I'm certainly not familiar with the rod so I'll look into it a bit more, but from a quick look on tackle warehouse it seems these rods are a bit more suited for large swimbaits, which I did mention in the techniques I'd like to theoretically use this rod for, but it's at the bottom of the list. The moderate action that it lists makes me a bit weary of hook sets on jigs/flipping baits/frogs but then again I've never fished an okuma so I'm not sure how their moderate action compares to others. I'll do a bit of reading on it though. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 23, 2015 Super User Posted June 23, 2015 No problem with hook setting using the Okuma rod, just isn't the ideal jig rod. Fred's magic stick would be a better choice for all around usage, not sure about it's durability. The next series of rods gets into the $300 range, Dobyn's Champ 764 or a custom built rod. Tom Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 23, 2015 Super User Posted June 23, 2015 You might want to look at the LTB 7'1" MH/F. I bought it this spring to use it for similar situations and I'm loving it! Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 23, 2015 Super User Posted June 23, 2015 One more time for the G Loomis 844C IMX. I use for all the techniques you mentioned, even some heavy crank baits and t- rigged soft plastic. It is a very versatile rod. Quote
Dogmatic Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 If you want a durable rod popular with the ocean kayakers out west, take a look at Okuma Guide Special 7'6" MH rod. Fits your needs at a good price. Tom +1 on the Okuma GS(select) series. Quote
