BocaGrande Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Found these gems at my local dollar store. 3 cranks a jerk lip less and a popper. Not to mention they also had spinner baits (not pictured) I got 1 of each and when I opened the package, to my surprise they all have rattles inside them! Seem like some decent lures. Great colors too. All for 1 dollar. No name brand the package just said "fishing tackle". Just wanted to share this with you guys! Thanks! 1 Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 Thanks Hank! Not to mention, the treble hooks look exactly the same as the ones on my heddon topwater lures. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 4 of the lures have lips. Hope they run straight. My thought is that you're going to get practice tuning lures so that they run straight. Not a bad price though. Quote
CeeJay Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Cool! Fish don't really care how much the lures cost I'll have to check out the dollar stores out here, there's a bunch...I never would have thought they might carry fishing tackle. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 With poppers, walkers, prop baits and lipless cranks I don't see any problem getting them from dollar stores, but lipped cranks -----> no way Jose. You get 4 or 5 of those that don't run true and you wasted 4 or 5 dollars that could have purchased you a good crank like a Bandit. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 Very nice. They remind of the older YoZuri Lures, which were great baits. Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 That brown popper looks cool. Just went out today to my loCal pond and brought my topwater outfit with me. Cught a couple on that popper! Pretty sweet lure and the rattle in that one is particularly loud 1 Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 The national chain dollar store or was it a mom and pop store Quote
BocaGrande Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 The national chain dollar store or was it a mom and pop store The store is called "dollar deal" and to my knowledge it is a mom and pop style store. In New Jersey there is a lot of dollar stores and I have not seen another one with the same name Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 I never dismiss a lure due to price, I saw a friend absolutely slay them with a bait he got doe $1.50 at wally world, it was called a Renegade and it caught fish. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 I never dismiss a lure due to price, I saw a friend absolutely slay them with a bait he got doe $1.50 at wally world, it was called a Renegade and it caught fish. I had a bunch or Renegade cranks and plastics. I never caught much off the cranks, but I did off the plastics. Walmart had them in the $1-$2 bin for years. Of all the discount lures that I'm wary of, I like a cheap spinnerbait. I have hung with and even outfished people using the cheapest ones BPS used to sell. I still have a few but the original skirts are long gone. Put a good trailer hook on that puppy and it'll flat catch fish. If it wants to turn sideways you can tune that steel wire. Bass are no respecters of a spinnerbait's brand. Only the skirt and blades matter. Quote
BannedForSpamming-1234555 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I would recommend changing the split rings and hooks. When I first got into fishing I would buy these lures but ended giving them away. I hope they work out for you. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 If mot already mentioned those are chinese made baits off ebay, you can get deals like 36 cranks for 19 bucks (an example cant remember prices but they were crazy cheap) but if 10 of them ran true you would be lucky. The problem aint so much the eye you tie to its the molds they use im guessing because i tried and tried to get some to run true by bending the eye but there was no adjustment by bending tjem that would make them run true..cheap junk, at least the ones i bought. The one good thing that came out of the deal for me was each bait had the hook protectors on each treble wich i like because grabbing a crank and 17 of them come out along with the one i want sucks ha ha ha Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 I never dismiss a lure due to price, I saw a friend absolutely slay them with a bait he got doe $1.50 at wally world, it was called a Renegade and it caught fish. I used to use Renegades for snook, caught as many on them as with any other hard jerkbait. Walmart no longer has them, but when available I'll buy Walmart Bombers for a few bucks, work just fine. I bought an inline spinner at a gas station for a buck about 7-8 years a go, still using it. Quote

Can't wait to try these out in the fall! Why wait until fall? Spinnerbaits this time of year can be deadly. They can be worked in all areas ofbthebwate column. Burn it so it causes a wake and very similar to a wake bait. Count them down and fish them at a certain depth. Or can be jigged up off the bottom and the blades will helicopter until it touches bottom again. I grew up in NJ and used them from ice out until we got ice again. Quote
BocaGrande Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Why wait until fall? Spinnerbaits this time of year can be deadly. i figured they were best in cooler times of the year like fall for feeding, as well as windy days keepin them near the banks. i tried spinnerbaits in the summer and havent produced yet. but thanks for the tip! i will give it a go next time i go out Quote
