clh121787 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I'll be in northern California next week visiting my inlaws. They live about 20 minutes from clear lake. I'll probably break down and hire a guide. I've already contacted one. But the anticipation is killing me. I understand that fishing isnt catching. But I can't help but have some expectations. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 Matt allen guides there and he is a ledged to me. If I had the opertunity there is no doubt that's what I would be doing. To locate him try tactical bassen * Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 21, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 21, 2015 It's always a good idea to hire a guide on a lake you've never been too if you can afford it. Takes all the guessing and riding around out. Good Luck and Welcome. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 If I went on a legendary lake like that; I would definitely hire a guide. You'll get the most out of your experience. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 I just did the Magic 8 Ball method on my daughter's toy and it said "Yes, Definitely" Quote
OroBass Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 clearlake water temps are threw the roof! Im talking close to 90 in a few spots. Most of the lake is in the middle of a massive algae bloom. The catfishing is outstanding with the average fish over 10 lbs. Call the tackle shops up here before you spend your money. Quote
clh121787 Posted June 21, 2015 Author Posted June 21, 2015 I see I'll surely do that. That's kind of a bummer. Quote
greentrout Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Find and hire a good guide and catch some fish. You won't regret it. The Old School Basser Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 The WON Open at Clear Lake a few weeks ago had very high release mortality rates, 75 big bass died in the release boat, another 50+ found floating! Just a reminder to practice good livewell management; keep the livewell water at 70-75 degrees and add a cup of 3% over the counter hydrogen peroxide to 15 gallons of livewell water. Tom Quote
OroBass Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I still cant believe the water temps when I went there Quote

So we got some cutbait and I had one of the best catfishing days of my life!!!! day 1 at clear lake caught some top water fish and bed fish on drop shot. Today took sight fishing to a whole nother level. Loved it. Much thanks to Mr. ROSS ENGLAND for providing a very professional guided trip. My first time hiring a guide was money well spent. I would recommend him to anyone Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 2, 2015 Super User Posted July 2, 2015 I haven't fished that place in years. My last two trips we caught 10 lb fish. Each. The algae blooms there are insane. It's like you're in a giant bowl of pea soup. Quote
