plastic lure repairs?

ive been using flukes and brush hogs and going through them left and right which actually is a good thing cause im catching fish  so i wouldnt mind. but sometimes ill use a fluke on just one fish cause the head would tear. is there anyway that i could re melt it or glue it back together so i could use it on another trip what have you guys done?

Two things I have done.

Cigarette lighter to the two pieces of plastic and lightly melt the ends and place together. This also works great for making your own custom lures out of two different lures.

Super glue works great on tears and for holding the head of lure on the hook just a little longer

this might seem odvious but i saw some one do this today, if you use a lighter to melt the head takeit off the hook, the lighter cut the line and they could not figure out what was going on.

wonder what would be better a butane or a old school flame. just looking at fixing the tears of the heads of flukes and bursh hogs.

you can get one of those battery operated soldering iron. They are not very big, about the size of a fat sharpie. The tip gets hot enough to do the melting and it is a lot more controlable than a flame. And it works when it is windy!

i have something called a power zap that is made for fixing plastics and cutting line- it works great is is about 20 bucks. before that i would just bring all the tore ones home and welt them back by heating up a paper clip and using that to melt them together

either buy one of those portable little hot tip tools like mentioned in the previous two posts for about 20 bucks, or go to walmart and get a woodburner from the craft section for 8 bucks.

the advantage of the portable one is..well...its portable, but its expensive and the wire tip will eventually burn out.

the advantage of the wood burner is its cheap, it will last, but you can not take it out on the boat or shore with you.

when you rig the lure peg the hook inplace with a peice of 30 lb mono. run the mono through the top of the head and through the hook eye and out the bottom of the lure and trim off the tag ends. This keeps the hook from sidding down and you don't rip as many heads.

get a bottle of Mend-it. It works like glue, only when it dries you cant see it or feel it. It wont stick to your hands or hardley anything els. It chemicaly welds soft plastic baits back together. You wont have to worry about melting you baits with a lighter or torch. Mend-it makes clean perfect repairs.

try some diachi cooper head hooks with the hitch hiker on there makes them last much longer
