Supermat Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 When I see these posts I always wonder how many of the baits have actually produced DD's for the people posting or if its just what they THINK will get them a big bite. I suspect if we didn't include the later the lists would all be shorter and we'd see a lot more repeat baits. As for me, I've not caught one on a 10" powerworm but I've netted enough doubles on it to know that it works. 1) Rainbow trout sinking swimbait 2) Brown/Orange or Brown/Purple Jig 3) 10" Powerworm (Black) 4) Chatterbait (Brown/black Bobby D's brand) 5) 3:16 wakebait or something similar Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I kinda agree with you Supermatt, there is alot of bovine excrament and alot of regurgitation on here but.....Stuff I listed has worked for me and people I fish with. caught alot of 7-9lbers and a few 10's. So I assume with my GA knowledge that as has been posted is in noway comparable to cali or texas.... So i think the 10+'s here will prollie eat it to. I didnt even list what I have caught my DD on because I feel like i got lucky w/ a small lure......I know we dont have the fish here GA that they do in cali.....The california eliteism here gets kinda old. Cephkiller Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 When I see these posts I always wonder how many of the baits have actually produced DD's for the people posting or if its just what they THINK will get them a big bite. I suspect if we didn't include the later the lists would all be shorter and we'd see a lot more repeat baits. The original post asks: "If you had to catch a 10 lber?", not "What have you caught a 10 lber on?" I have never caught a DD, but I live in IN and this is the only place I've ever fished so I don't think that is unusual. I answered with the knowledge that the baits I listed were those I've caught my largest fish on or those in which I have the most confidence to catch a large fish. I'm not trying to scam anyone. If you want to know which baits people have actually used to catch a DD, I think that might be a useful thread for you to start. I would be interested to see how that thread differs from this one. Supermat Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I guess my post came across wrong. In fact, I wrote it right after waking up and when I just when back and read it it was pretty rude. What I was getting at is this post is about what will up your odds of getting a big one. I would imagine that at one time or another every bait on the market has caught a big bass for somebody so potentially 3" senkos, crappie jigs, and everything else could be on the list. What I was trying to say is that if you took every double digit caught by every guy on this board there are going to be some crazy baits that have worked but for the most part you're going to see some distinct patterns such as large creature baits, jigs, swimbaits, and 10-16" worms. These are the baits that will truly provide the best ODDS though just about anything out there CAN work at one time or another. Sorry I came across so rude before. I'd just climbed out of bed and clearly didn't think through how I was presenting my message. Quote
wickyman Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 To clear it all up, I agree with matt. I myself have never landed a fish in a net, or boat, in the DD range, but I have had one on... Bad line caused me to lose it, and I was upset, none the less, I live in Cali, and could catch another, on the above said. I am not an elitest, but it seems that some other current, or past forum posters have gave us in California, a bad reputation... Not every single fish out here is huge, and many aren't bigger than 2-8lbs... Sometimes, if you hit the right spot, you will find a double digit, but that is more rare than catching a trout on Clear Lake! I have seen some 30-50 DD fish, but chances are, I won't ever catch them again! Different methods, different areas, etc... Just because you don't think there are larger fish in other areas that have been planted with the Florida hybrids, doesn't mean that they don't exist in your area! Many places are producing fish that most people won't catch, but I am sure they are out there... Keep trying, eventually someone has to find them! Quote

No problemo I wasn't really sure if you were being rude or not so I tried not to overreact. I just wanted you to know my perspective. Quote
