Tiller Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 What's your favorite style of topwater for smallmouth? Poppers, walk-the-dog, prop baits, wake baits, etc.? 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 20, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 20, 2015 Walk the dog, poppers a distant second. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 F13 Rapala. Twitch three or four times and then fast retrieve to cast again. I like orange because I see it in a chop. 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted June 21, 2015 Super User Posted June 21, 2015 I like a walker for sure... A Sexy Dawg, Spook, ect. I like wake baits, but more for largemouth, they slam em! Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 Storm Chugbug, Rapala Skitterwalk 1 Quote
*Hank Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I like the Lucky Craft G Splash popper. That`s a close 2nd for me. Quote
Neil McCauley Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Most productive for me, the "TopKnocker." Walks the dog well, and has a ball bearing inside that rolls along a track and creates a delayed "knock" after it moves and this seems to really drive fish nuts. Best part is it casts further than anything else in my box, much farther than Zara Spooks. Now I just wish I could find them for sale somewhere.. Quote
moguy1973 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Strike King Sexy Dawgs and Damiki Dolphins (although the latter isn't made anymore ) Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted June 22, 2015 Super User Posted June 22, 2015 For smallmouth, the Tiny Torpedo. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted June 23, 2015 Super User Posted June 23, 2015 Megabass X-pod it can pretty much be morphed into doing whatever and everything in between. Quote
Canyon explorer Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 For small stream, river smallmouth I like the Rebel PoP-R in Foxy Momma And Heddon's Tiny Torpedo. For large smallmouth (My absolute favorite is Heddon's Zara Spook 4.5" 3/4 oz. Quote

Balshy Fishing Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I haven't had ANY LUCK at all with spooks, AT ALL. I've only caught bass on Top water poppers Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2015 I haven't had ANY LUCK at all with spooks, AT ALL. I've only caught bass on Top water poppers Bone colored super spook jr walked at a pretty fast pace with no pauses is by far my #1 smallmouth topwater bait and presentation. 3 Quote
CeeJay Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Hula Popper for me, followed by Rebel CrickPopper, as well as the largest fly-fishing poppers I can find. I love poppers Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 Tough question for me but I'll go by which I use more. For me, poppers are tied with walking baits, Super Spook Jr. is killer but so are others like the old discontinued Yo-Zuri Banana Boat and the LC Sammy but the Super Spook Jr. is my favorite. A Storm Rattlin' Chug Bug is a killer popper but so is the Xcalibur Zell Pop, two completely different baits as one is loud and aggressive and the other more subtle. Then you have prop baits, the Tiny Torpedo has always been a great bait, and my favorite prop bait up until last year was a Heddon Dying Flutter, but now the new Yo-Zuri 3DB Prop, that is a smallmouth smasher, they absolutely choke it!!!!
