I'm sorry everyone, but stuff like this really irks me. Post on a public forum that the historical record is wrong then bail. Younger ppl fall prey to this crap revisionist historians claim to reveal the truth (rarely do they), instead they are promoting a humanist world view. All I want is a timeframe, it's easy civil war 1861-1865, WWI 1914-1918, WWII 1939-1945. If I have to go into either a religious or political discussion why these dates are not accurate then I'm revising the historical record, in short lying.

Well, where do you want to start? We can start with the Ottomans (1299-1923) the Sasanids, the Assyrians, the Seljuqs, the Achamaemenids.. We could go all day discussing empires in the middle east simply based on the conquest and rule of other people by the sword.

Thank you Jakob you left out several but that's cool. My post WAS NOT directed towards you, I would encourage you to go back and do your own study of the time periods you listed. Just because the area had a ruling dynasty does not mean there was peace. Your comment that I quoted is accurate, but like I stated do your research let the facts speak for themselves, because as you stated the rule of the sword doesn't sound peaceful.

Then don't present yourself as an elite intellect with the ability to correct another person when u don't possess the facts to back it up. History is being rewritten imo to promote an agenda with no interest in truth. Science is another discipline where this its happening.

3rd and 4th dynasty's in Egypt were fairly peaceful and prosperous to cherry pick one here.

that being said I find it much more useful and engaging discussing the reasons and circumstances of world history and not memorizing dates.  I would tend to agree with Cgrinder here in that he is being evasive as going into the specifics of the who's, what's, and why's of middle eastern conflicts would easily fall on the other side of the isle than what would be allowed on this site.  As the initial ("they have been throwing rocks at each other for all of time...") indicates a need or at the very least a correlation between the people and a perceived propensity for violence of which he (and I) also would disagree.  My apologies cgrinder if I am wrong in this assumption.

I don't find any revisions to history here however I do see a mistake in:

"If I have to go into either a religious or political discussion why these dates are not accurate then I'm revising the historical record, in short lying. "

The most important part of history and conflicts is understanding the "why" part.

It would be like me saying to you after I poured a cup of coffee on you "you drink coffee".

Because you have coffee spilled on you, do you drink coffee?

Yeah man, pretty much. Plus, I had a paper to write last night. I could spend today finding empirical evidence to support a brewing debate in the off topic section of a fishing forum... or I could just go fishing.

You partially quoted my posts to remove context, reffered to something I suggested as "Kook-Aid", and you've taken something that I addressed to someone else personally and obsessed on it. Now you insult me. Do you still wonder why I do not wish to engage in discourse with you?

This is a perfect example of moderators attempting to keep a thread civil, yet it continues to go downhill.  We tried to keep this open by sending out little warnings (and deleting several comments that crossed the line), but y'all just couldn't resist the urge to fight anyway.

I don't want to hear anyone complain about locked threads again.  We only lock them when y'all force us to.
