I really want to get a Fenwick Aetos. What do you guys think about a 2-piece vs a 1 piece spinning rod? Would there be any major differences?

If I could get the 2 piece rod about $50 cheaper, would it be worth it over the 1 piece?

As you can see, FishUSA offers Aetos rods in both 1 and 2 piece options for the 6'6" and 7'0" rod length models.

I have both a 1 piece and 2 piece 6'6" MF Aetos. Use the two piece as my travel rod and I can't notice a difference between the two. I tried out the 7'0" MF one and the action felt significantly different. Much more whippy and did not feel like a true fast action.

I have the 7' medium power, fast action Fenwick Aetos spinning rod, it is very close to a medium light in power and is a finesse technique rod, it is not made as an all purpose rod and it is a fast action but it isn't as fast as other rods in the series. I'm guessing that the 7' is the one they designated for drop shot and shaky head, the rod is more versatile than a drop shot specific rod because the tip section isn't super soft so you can fish shaky heads no problem. The claim to fame is that the rod is very light and it is ridiculously sensitive, the thing with a two piece rod is it can change it a bit, take a look at the specs on the 6'6" model, the 2 piece has a little different specs as if the rod were a little more powerful and it is because the rod has a short length and the fact they have to have an extended area with a thicker wall where the rod pieces join together and it makes a shorter rod a little more powerful. If I was getting an all purpose spinning rod in a 2 piece in this series, it would be the 6'6", and the reason is the 7' model is more of a finesse stick, it can handle a little larger weights but it is better used with shaky heads and drop shots.

What he said!

I own that Aetos and it is always out with me along with my 6'9" M/XF Fenwick Elitetech Smallmouth.  These two rods are awesome in sensitivity.

To add regarding 1 vs 2.  I'd get a 2pc if I need a travel rod.  If not get the 1pc.

Thanks guys, I found a $30 rebate deal on Gander Mountain, and I think I'm either going to get the 6'8" MH/XF or the 6'6" M/F Aetos rod.

I like my spinning rod to be under 7' so I can skip docks better, but which rod do you think would be better for senkos/wacky rigs/finesse/shakey heads/slider heads/jerkbaits/poppers/topwaters? 6'8" MH/XF or the 6'6" M/F?

The M/F is what I would choose.

Since you want an all purpose set  up the 6'6" M-F is going to be more versatile, the 6'8" is a medium heavy with an extra fast action, it will skip really well but it isn't going to handle all the baits you want to use, a medium power, extra fast action would be good but not medium heavy. The 6'6" M-F is going to allow you to fish all those baits and techniques pretty good and allow you to skip, rip, and twitch with no problems.

Thanks smalljaw67, now I understand the differences better. I'm gonna go with the more versatile 6'6" M/F.
