GAMEOVER Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 1) Was wondering if any of you Sammy users have caught smallies on the 100 series? I have on the 85 but have only landed Largemouths on the 100s.. anyone catch smallies consistantly with em? 2) What depths to the different LC RC CB series dive to? Quote
The_Natural Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Supposedly, each bait in the RC series runs to a depth designated in the name, i.e. the .5 runs 1/2ft, the 1.5 runs 1.5ft, and so on. I haven't found this to be accurate. The 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 all seem to run 3-4ft for me, and the .5 runs from 2-3ft. I'm not sure on your sammy question...I fish lakes that are predominately largemouth lakes. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted November 24, 2006 Super User Posted November 24, 2006 sammy 100: the only topwater that I CONSITENTLY catch smallies on. caught some today as a matter of fact. Quote
bassclown Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 the RC cranks are supposed to run to a max depth of 4 ft. no matter what the size. Quote
Shakes Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 1) Sammy 100's are bad 8-). The 85's are alright, but the 100's are what is preferred. I've caught several smallies on a 100. I catch far more Largemouths tho. 2) The flat CB's dive as deep at 3.5 ft. Quote
Craw Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 For question #2 I'll leave you this link... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=58581&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=5&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse I own 2 of each model RC and and really like them for stained shallow water/heavy cover situations. I fish them on 17lb. test just like a spinnerbait. These baits are ideal for an alternative to spinnerbait fishing. They are extremely durable and deflect well off of wood and rock. On 17lb. or 20lb. test they do run approx. 4'. Heavy line does not have to much effect on the action of these baits like it does on most cranks. Quote
justfishin Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I have been fishing the Susquehanna in PA for many years and throw a lot of Zara Spooks for smallies. My friends and customers always say " Thats too big for smallmouth, isn't it ? ". No, I tell them. The Sammy 100 is the same way. Throw them. When they are on those big tops it can be a blast as well as deadly on them. Smallies are tenacious creatures. As the saying goes " Smallmouths are not Largemouths ". These are two completly different fish in my book. I am not sure if it is food or just anger or a combination of both but, they seem to like to hit big baits like Spooks and Sammys. Good luck sir. sodaksker Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I too have had good success with smallies on the sammy 100. I don't care for the sammy 85. The first "85" i had would not run correctly, it just laid on its side and went only to the right. BPS let me exchange it, only after a 15 minute inquisition. The one I exchanged it for run ok but, does walk the dog as easily as the 100. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 24, 2006 Super User Posted November 24, 2006 It 's not a smallie but I caught this one: With a Daiwa Dead or Alive 5" swimbait which is a lot bigger than a Sammy 100. Quote
