krd22 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I have a 95 190 nitro with a 150 Mercury EFI. I am trying to weigh my options. I can repower this boat with a 150 HP 4 stroke for $10,500 with a 5 year warranty. A 175 HP pro xs for 12,500. The boat is in great shape to be 20 Years old. Resale will not be a problem because whatever I normally have I keep until it is scrapped. I want to have a boat that is efficient to fish out of everyday. I live on Pickwick lake. I thought about just going and buying a new tin boat (can't afford a new glass boat). I fish quite a few pot luck tournaments that the boat needs to be set up for. I have looked at used boats but prices are outrageous and you could be buying someone else's problems. Not completely opposed to this option. Thoughts? Quote
junyer357 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Ive known a few folks who repowered with a new motor on an older boats. They still really liked the boats but motor wore out. If you are still pleased with your boat and a new one like you want is out of budget it seems like a better option than a newer boat you may be unhappy with. Of the 2 i know who did repower the one who upgraded to a pro xs has been happier due to better fuel economy and the easier starting. The other guy went with an xr6 merc and been happy with it but still kinda wishes he had spent for an injected over carb motor. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted June 18, 2015 Super User Posted June 18, 2015 When I started looking at boats my number one concern was the hull. if you have a good platform then you could just read power it later. Do you need any more room or a better layout? Quote
