UCPOPO Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I'm in the market for a new spinning reel and since I am running all Lew's Baitcasting reels and love them, I'm initially leaning that direction. I've read thru a lot of reviews and have seen a lot of bad reviews on some of the Lew's spinning reels in the past. How do you guys feel about the current offerings from Lews or should I just get a Daiwa or Shimano? I rarely use spinning gear so I'd like to keep the reel expense under $100. Thanks for any advice. Super User Long Mike Posted June 18, 2015 Super User Posted June 18, 2015 The Pflueger President is probably one of the best spinning reels on the market in your price range. It has a huge following. 1 Quote
microotter Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I just recently bought the highspeed tournament pro. I only got to use it for one all day fishing trip, but i really enjoyed fishing with it. It casts nice, is light and has a smooth drag and retrieve. I would buy it again. Quote
chelboed Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 If you don't use it that much...there's not much need to go overboard on one. Get an American Hero combo and let me know how it works so I can decide on one for me, hehehe. Quote
WPCfishing Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I only use a spinning reel for drop shots. If I were in the buying mood I'd buy a Lews. All but 2 of my 8 reels are Lews. They're a great company I know I can count on and there reels are solid in every way. I pay zero attention to reviews for obvious reasons. Quote
SDbassin Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I love my team gold spinning reel, you can get them for about $110 on the bay, totally worth it in my opinion, I will get more definitely Quote
timsford Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I had the tournament hs spin and the team gold. I really liked both and thought they were excellent reels for the money. I had to sell because i lost my job but ill be saving for more Quote
riverbasser13 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Tackle Warehouse has some Lews spinning reels on sale, I have a couple lower end models and am happy with them. Quote
Sonik Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I bought a Team Gold Speed Spin on a going out of business sale last summer for like $60. Super light and works well. I have no experience with their lower end models. Saying that, you will be hard pressed to beat a Pflueger President for under $100. I got my President in a combo with a 7' ML Cabela's Tourney Trail rod for $70 on sale and it is fantastic for dropshot and ned rigs. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 18, 2015 Super User Posted June 18, 2015 The Pflueger President is probably one of the best spinning reels on the market in your price range. It has a huge following. Pflueger has an established track record, IMO for freshwater spinning they excel. I use 3 Supemes, fish year round and nearly every day I'm using one of them, those reels are 6+ years old. They are as good as they day I bought them, never a need for service of any kind. If one does need service, Pure Fishing is as good as it gets. Quote
ibobpeb Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I prefer spinning reels that are lighter in weight 6 - 7 ounces. Those Lew's spinning reels are a tad too heavy for my liking (9 - 10 ounces) just personal opinion. You may like them. I don't. Different strokes for different folks. Right now I have the Pflueger President, Okuma RTX, and Shimano Stradic CI4+ spinning reels and am very happy. Now if we're talking baitcasters, I love Lew's. Quote
jitterbug127 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I have the carbon fire reel and love it. Can be had for a song too Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Reveiws i think make you second guess yourself sometimes, i have the G2 speed spin(50-60 bucks) and i love it!super smooth reel,i will say its a tad heavy but depending on what you put it on makes a difference. I jave mine on a lews laser LG speed stick and it balances great! About a hundred frogskins for both, great combo for the money IMO.. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted June 19, 2015 Super User Posted June 19, 2015 I fondled one in the store i like the paddle handle but way to much shaft play for me and that means it will wear faster IME.i use a lot of diff brand spinning reels and i prefer the handles that are direct drive that screw in Quote
stkbassn Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I bought my Lews spinning reel for $59 locally. It's the SGH300. It's black and red and looks great on my Diesel spinning rod. It performs very well in my opinion. Quote
