Here's some fun facts concerning Toledo Bend

Texas Parks & Wildlife shock studies show Toledo Bend has more 10# plus bass per acre than any body of water in Texas including Lake Fork!

The problem is due to its size during inclement weather most of the lake is un-fishable even in a 21' bass boat.

Upon close examination of shocked bass many show no signs of ever being hooked, leading biologist to surmise many bass are born, live long lives, & die of old age having never seen a lure.

Ole Tom (WRB) loves to tout his hero Dee Thomas & his dramatic win on Bull Shoals but that wasn't his first tournament. His first tournament was the week before on Toledo Bend where he failed to make the top 50 & the next year he failed to make the top 100. Dee said of Toledo Bend, "I was awestruck, that lake has such a target rich enviroment that I tried flipping them all."

In 2001 while pre-fishing Toledo Bend for the up coming Top 150, Kevin VanDam said, " if you can not catch 25-30 bass per day on this lake you can't fish". KVD's average finish after 5 events on the Bend is 30th place.

Y'all come down & get ya some! ;)

Catt TB has coves bigger then Casitas and Castaic, It looks like the perfect bass lake and never had the opportunity to fish it. All that outside structure to explore with those old folks (bass) needing some exercise.

Man.....I'd like to give it a shot

My mother grew up in Lufkin Texas, down the road from lake Sam Rayburn. I had relatives that lived on the Texas, Lousiana border, right down the road from Toledo Bend. Went there every summer growing up, before I took up fishing!

Never gave it much thought then. What I wouldn't give now.....

Come on Tom, sock that puppy home

Beginning around 1970, Toledo Bend was one of the most storied waterbodies in America.

Only the youngsters haven’t heard of the “Hemphill Gang”, sticks like Harold Allen,

Tommy Martin and the “worm king” Larry Nixon. Back in the day there was also CATT:

i.e. “Cajun Anglers Tournament Tackle”  :wink7:

Bert, you have just given me an idea.  Based on last Spring's attendance, trying to put together a Bass Resource Road Trip to the Bend is out of the question for the majority of our members.  It's just a lake too far, regardless of the quality of the fishery.  So, why not plan on an annual Baked Potato Classic at the Bend AND a Bass Resource road trip?  The BR road trip would be held at a location that could be reached by our Northern neighbors, e.g. Kentucky Lake.
